College of New Caledonia was established in January of 1969. It was set up on an ‘operating funds only’ basis. College of New Caledonia was started with financial help from participating school districts. CNC made use of facilities leased by the Prince George Senior Secondary School. The first few programs offered at the College of New Caledonia were Administrative Science, Early Childhood Education, First Year University Arts and Science, and Data Processing. CNC slowly hired faculty to teach these courses. Around 253 students took admission from all participating regions. The college was named after the fur-trading district of Hudson’s Bay Company. The name was given to the region by the explorer Simon Fraser.

On June 4, 1996, the College of New Caledonia registered its Arms, Flag, Supporters, and Badge with the Canadian Heraldic Authority. The first official opening ceremony of the College of New Caledonia was held on 10th October 1969. Their faculty had mandated not more than 37 students in one class. College of New Caledonia is situated in the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. This particular region has a population of 145,000 and covers the school districts of Prince George, Quesnel, and Nechako lakes. College of New Caledonia operates a total of six campuses. The first is the Prince George campus. It has four buildings- Nicholson campus, the main campus, the John A. Brink Trades & Technology Centre, and the Technical Education Centre. College of New Caledonia Admission Deadlines

College of New Caledonia welcomes applications for 3 semesters in a year in January, May and September. The College does not have a fixed admission timeline. International applicants are advised to apply at least 6 months before the commencement date of the semester they wish to attend.

Admission requirements for international students will depend on their home country and level of education. All certificate, diploma, associate degree, transfer and post diploma programs have similar requirements.

Visa Process for International Students

International students will require a permit to study in Canada. The following documents will be required to apply for a study permit:

  • Acceptance letter from the College.
  • Valid passport
  • Passport sized photograph
  • Proof of financial stability
  • Letter of explanation

Besides applying for a study permit, students from India, China, Vietnam, Philippines, etc. have the choice to apply through the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Through this students will be able to receive the study permit within 20 days. Additional documents listed below are required to be submitted:

  • Proof of ability to pay first year tuition fee.
  • Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of 10,000 CAD.
  • Medical certificate
  • Police certificate

Admission Requirements: The following requirements must be satisfied for admission to College of New Caledonia:

    • Accurate information on all your monthly expenses
    • Clearly state your financial situation, and explain why you cannot pay your tuition in full.  One-sentence responses will be rejected – we require at least one paragraph of 80 words, with full detailed information on your situation in order to assess your eligibility for a payment plan.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted

  1. Note: you only need to apply ONCE for you payment plan. Do not set up multiple payment plan applications.
  2. Read the “Terms and Conditions”, click that you have read them, then click the “submit” button to submit your application – it will be saved on a secure site accessible only to the International Education Department staff
  3. Once your payment plan application has been received by International Education it will be reviewed.  You do not need to go to the International Education Centre.  If the information provided on your payment plan application is insufficient you may be asked to meet with International Education staff for further review.
  4. If approved, you will receive an e-mail from International Education within one week of application to confirm the approval.  You will receive a second e-mail from Financial Services with confirmation of due dates, payment amounts and deadlines. Until you have received your confirmation email from Financial Services, your payment plan is NOT complete.
  5. If at any time in the past, the College has had to send your financial account to a collections agency for non-payment of fees, your application for a payment plan will be denied, as per the Terms and Conditions.  If your payment plan application is denied, you will be notified via e-mail by International Education.
  6. Financial Services will assess your payment amounts and this information will be available via CNC Connect once you have received your confirmation e-mail from Financial Services.

Payment Plans

Payment plans for January 2022 semester are available starting November 1, 2021

Students who do not pay full fees or set up a payment plan by December 8, 2021 at 4 PM will be de-registered from their classes, and risk losing their first choice in courses/sections/instructors.

To set up a payment plan:

  1. Register for your courses for 2022 Spring semester. Do not apply for a payment plan until after you are registered.
  2. Apply for a payment plan using the online application form

Students whose first language is not English need to submit an English Language proficiency assessment.  The College of New Caledonia commonly accepts IELTS (Academic) or TOEFL (iBT) assessments, but will accept equivalent assessments such as PTE, CAEL, and CELPIP along with others.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic score of at least 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5, within the previous 2 years.  To qualify under the Student Direct Stream, the student must submit a valid IELTS result of 6.0 overall with no individual band lower than 6.0 as proof of English language abilities.  Students submitting an IELTS of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5 can still apply for a study permit, however, the application will be processed in a longer timeline than what is set for SDS applicants.

TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 80 with no section below 17, within the previous 2 years.

Some programs have program specific requirements for English Language proficiency, such as the health professional programs and the Civil Engineering Technologist program.  Please refer to the webpage of the specific program you are interested in to learn more about the entry requirements for that program. 

Be aware that if you enter with the minimum requirements, you will need to improve your English language skills to succeed.
