The Siena Heights University Athletic Department recently unveiled a new logo that will become the new standard bearer for all Saints athletic programs.
The new logo, unveiled at a special ceremony June 27 in front of the Siena Heights Fieldhouse, both modernizes the look of the athletic program and better represents the universityโs nickname, according to Saints Athletic Director Fred Smith.
โThis process took nearly a year to complete and was truly a collaborative effort between our athletic and marketing departments,โ Smith said. โIโm very pleased with the result, and believe this logo will allow us to better market and brand our athletic programs here at Siena Heights.โ
Siena Heightsโ new primary athletic logo is the โSAINTSโ lettering with a star imbedded in a halo as the graphic mark above the wording. The halo represents the Universityโs โSaintsโ nickname, while the star can symbolize โone universityโ or the institutionโs tagline of โThink Higher.โ
โAt birth, Saint Dominic was said to have a star appear on his forehead,โ said SHU President Sister Peg Albert, OP, PhD, of the founder of the Dominican order. โItโs a subtle, yet appropriate, reference to our Dominican, Catholic heritage.โ
Smith said the new logo and its several variations will become the official mark on the Universityโs athletic uniforms, apparel and signage. It will also be used on the athletic departmentโs redesigned web site, which is scheduled to launch later this summer under the address www.shusaints.com.
โWe have had so many different logos for our athletic programs over the years, itโs nice to finally have a more unified look,โ Smith said. โThis logo will hopefully enhance what is already a strong tradition of athletics at Siena Heights.โ
Siena Heights University competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), sponsoring six menโs and seven womenโs intercollegiate programs as well as two menโs club programs. The Saints are a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
