Admission Process at Delft University of Technology
To enrol in the university, students need to follow the given Delft University of Technology admission process:
- To apply for BSc programs, students need to apply through TU Studielink. They need to fill out their personal details and choose to apply to the university for a full-time program.
- Subsequently, they’ll receive an email from TU Delft possessing their NetID, email address, and an invitation to the Osiaan portal. Students need to activate their NetID to log onto all TU Delft systems and upload their passport photos at the designated link.
- Next, applicants need to complete their application on the Osiaan portal and pay an application fee of EUR 100. It’s advisable to check the progress of the application regularly.
- Shortlisted candidates will receive a request by March to visit the TU Delft campus for a physical document verification once TU Studielink the status changes to enrol.
- The procedure to apply and application fees for MSc programs is precisely the same. However, the only significant difference is instead of selecting Bachelors during their online application; they need to opt for Masters.
- It’s essential to note that each applicant can only opt for a single BSc or MSc program while applying. Nevertheless, if students wish to go for a Numerus Clauses program, they can select one backup course as well.

International applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences or technology subjects related to those taught at TU Delft are also eligible for this programme. You can choose to do a double degree (180 ECTS) with one of the other MSc programmes at TU Delft or fill the science & technology part of the curriculum with courses from another TU Delft MSc programme. If you are eligible for another TU Delft MSc programme, you are automatically eligible for our Communication Design for Innovation track. If you have already completed a suitable Master’s programme you might be exempted from some of the scientific course curriculum.
Proof of English Language proficiency
We advise students who apply to the Communication Design for Innovation programme to have higher scores on English Language proficiency tests than the minimum requirements for Master’s programmes at TU Delft. Because our programme mainly consists of group work, writing in English and communicating with students from different countries, it is important that both your spoken and your written English are very good.
We prefer applicants to meet one the following requirements:
- A TOEFL** (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 100 and a minimum score of 21 for each section (internet-based test). Please note that we only accept the TOEFL internet-based test.

Programme
This MSc track combines Communication Design for Innovation courses with courses in a science & technology subject related to your Bachelor’s programme, and allows you to tailor the programme to your own interests. The communication part of the programme comprises of courses that offer relevant theoretical knowledge, skills and insights in the field of science communication, including science journalism, high-tech marketing, psychology and sociology of collaboration. The main part of the programme is focused on bridging between science, technology and society through design. These courses will help you to bring science, technology, organisation and innovation management together in a real innovation practice and attune this process to the 21st century skilled professionals in collaborative networks.
The science & technology part will enrich and broaden your knowledge of a scientific or technological discipline. You will deepen your knowledge of and skills in a subject that is directly related to your Bachelor’s programme by taking courses at a Master’s level.
In order to create synergy, the science & technology and Communication Design for Innovation parts can run in parallel. In the final phase of the programme, and in particular in the thesis, the domains can be integrated.
If you already hold a science & technology-based MSc degree, you can follow the Communication Design for Innovation programme as a 1-year (12- to 15-month) programme, with a focus on communication subjects.2-year programme
In this MSc programme, you combine 60 ECTS of your science & technology subjects with 60 ECTS in Communication Design for Innovation. For the science & technology part, you draw up your own programme.
