Dordt University Scholarships

Dordt University is a Sioux Center, Iowa-based private evangelical Christian university. It was created in 1955 and is linked with the North American Christian Reformed Church. The name of the university is a reference to the Dordt Synod. Dordt enrolls approximately 1,500 students each year.

DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARDS

Ten Distinguished Scholars are selected each year. Students with a minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA and a  minimum 32 ACT, 1420 SAT, or 97 CLT composite score will be invited to a Dordt Distinguished Scholar Day on Friday, January 14, 2022, during which a variety of activities related to academic interests will be presented. An interview will be a required activity that day. Students who find it difficult to schedule this visit may contact Financial Aid to schedule a Zoom interview. Dordt Admissions Counselors can answer specific questions about Distinguished Scholar awards.  These awards are renewable for an additional three consecutive years provided the recipient maintains a 3.50 cumulative GPA. 

DORDT PRESIDENTIAL, HONORS AND COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Presidential, Honors, and Collegiate Scholarships, ranging from $6,000 to $13,500, will be awarded on a graduating scale to all students who have a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA.   Scholarship amounts may be increased by submitting ACT, SAT, or CLT scores.  These scholarships are renewable, provided the recipient maintains a 2.80 cumulative grade point average after their first year, and a 3.00 cumulative grade point average thereafter for the Presidential and Honors Scholarships.  A minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average is required to maintain the Collegiate Scholarship.  There is no application process and the December 1 deadline date does not apply to these scholarships. 

KUYPER HONORS SCHOLARSHIPS

Students accepted into the Kuyper Honors Program will be awarded a $2,500 Kuyper Honors Scholarship. Eligibility requirements to apply for this program are a 3.50 cumulative GPA and a 28 ACT (or 1300 SAT) composite score. Final admittance will be based on an entrance essay and letters of recommendation. Interested students should apply through the Dordt financial aid office.  These awards are renewable for an additional three consecutive years provided the recipient maintains a 3.25 cumulative GPA and is a successful, active participant in the Kuyper Honors Program.

NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST AWARD SCHOLARSHIP

Each year the National Merit Scholarship Program names around 15,000 high school seniors as finalists in its competition that highlights a student’s exceptional academic ability and potential for success in college studies.  As recognition for this honor, a $3,000 National Merit Finalist Award Scholarship is awarded to any incoming freshman who has been named as a National Merit Finalist for that year.  This scholarship is in addition to the academic scholarship that the student receives.  This scholarship is renewable for an additional three consecutive years provided recipients maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA after their freshman year and a 3.25 cumulative GPA thereafter. 

RU-STEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP

The RU-STEM Scholars Program is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and has been set up to recruit incoming undergraduate students who have financial need to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum 22 ACT (or SAT equivalent).  Financial need will be defined by a FAFSA submission, and is required to be considered for this award.  Scholarships of up to $10,000/year are available to five students and can be renewed for an additional two years provided the recipients meet the renewal requirements.  See application for full details.

Dordt University Tuition

Tuition and fees for 2021-2022 are as follows:

  • Graduate Courses: $375/credit
  • One-time Technology Fee: $100
  • Program Completion Fee: $100

Graduate courses taken for graduate credit are worth three credits.

ONLINE PAYMENT

You may now pay your tuition and registration fees by credit card.

Credit card or online bank payments can be initiated through Dordt’s new third party servicing agent, ACI. Dordt University uses ACI for collection of online payments. For credit/debit card payments, ACI charges a fee of 2.65% ($3.95 minimum). For ACH payments from your checking account, ACI charges a fee of $0.75.

The Canadian Exchange Rate is determined the first and 15th of each month and can be viewed online or by contacting the Business Office at (712) 722-6013.

FINANCIAL AID

In an effort to make graduate education at Dordt available to as many people as possible, program costs are kept as reasonable as possible. Financial aid in the form of federal loan programs is available. Students who wish to apply online should go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. For more information, contact Harlan Harmelink in the Financial Aid Office at (712) 722-6082.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Marion and Jan Van Soelen School Leadership Scholarship

Marion and Jan Van Soelen’s children have established this scholarship honoring their parents’ legacy in school leadership. This scholarship will be awarded to a first-time Master of Education student specializing in school leadership. The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded over the full length of the student’s program, at $200 per three-credit course. Financial need will be considered, including employer reimbursement or assistance programs. To apply, email the Grad Ed Office for more details.

Academics
Dordt offers over 90 programs of study[13] with over 40 majors and 11 pre-professionalprograms of study. The core is drawn from various academic disciplinesโ€”such as language, natural science, and social science. These courses integrate the character and scope of Christian perspective. They provide insight into the nature and demands of contemporary Christian living and help students understand how various aspects of contemporary life are interrelated and how the global culture has developed. These general education courses also supply students with the basic quantitative, analytic, lingual, and physical skills that are essential to the program overall and to their tasks as citizens.

Dordt is accredited to grant bachelor and Master of Education degrees by the Higher Learning Commission.Furthermore, the engineering program is ABET accredited,[17] the nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing and the Iowa Board of Nursing[18] and the social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.[19]
