Established in 1975, the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is a government-run institution of higher education in New Zealand. Originally founded as the Hawke’s Bay Community College, the institution’s name was changed to Hawke’s Bay Polytechnic in 1987. It was in the year 1996 that the institution adopted its current name. It is recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Commission of New Zealand.
The main campus of EIT is based in a suburb of Napier City, located in the Hawke’s Bay region. It is surrounded by magnificent landscapes and astounding architecture, which provides an excellent learning environment for the students. The institution also has two satellite campuses in Auckland and Gisborne. Apart from this, EIT operates several learning centers across the city where educational programs are taught. The campus features well-maintained buildings, pathways, parking areas, recreational and green spaces. The institution offers excellent academic facilities and services to support effective learning and teaching, which include smart classrooms, lecture halls, high-tech laboratories, and practical rooms.
EIT Libraries provide relevant study and research facilities for staff, students and community members, which include books, newspapers, journals, CDs, DVDs, databases and other electronic resources. Apart from this, EIT provides a range of facilities to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the students. Hawke’s Bay campus has two cafes and one fine-dining restaurant, while there are two food outlets on the Tairawhiti campus. Counselling and Chaiplancy service is also provided on the campus. Students can access free Wi-Fi at any corner of the campus. The beauty and body therapy clinic, salon, massage clinic, and bookshop are some of the facilities on the campus that are open to the public. EIT provides housing facilities for the students in the Student Village, which is located just on the opposite side of Hawke’s Bay campus. In Auckland, the institution offers accommodation in apartment complexes.
EIT offers over 130 academic programs across diverse disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It extends degrees in agriculture, grape-growing, winemaking, computing, art and design, business, fashion, hospitality, music, health sciences, nursing, social sciences, and creative studies. The institution also offers short courses, certificate and diploma programs across various disciplines. At present, more than 10,222 students from over 40 countries of the world are pursuing their degrees from EIT. They are taught by highly knowledgeable and skilled affiliates, including 340 full-time faculty members. EIT has a comprehensive list of alumni living across the globe. Many of them are working at high posts and recognized for their contribution in respective career fields. Further, the institution keeps a record of all the achievements of its alumni and organizes several events to celebrate them.
