Fuzhou, the capital and the larges tmunicipality of Fujian Province, boasts a history of over 2000 years. Fujian Medical University (Chinese: 福建医科大学) is a university located in Fuzhou, Fujian, China. Fujian Medical University was founded in 1937, named Fujian Provincial Medical Vocational School at that time. The name of the school was changed to Fujian Provincial Medical College in 1939 and was called Fujian Medical College in 1949. In 1969, after merging with Fujian Chinese Traditional Medical College and the medical department of Huaqiao University, Fujian Medical University was founded and moved to Quanzhou, Fujian. It was moved back to Fuzhou in 1978. The name of the school was changed back to Fujian Medical College in 1982 and then changed back to the present name in April 1996.
Overseas Education College of FMU was established in July 2008 and International Students Office of FMU was established in January 2014 and works co-operatively with OEC, which consists of Administration Office, Teaching and Research Office, Student Affairs Office and Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. OEC now has 17 permanent faculty and staff members, including 1 Dean, 2 Deputy Deans, 5 administrators, 4 international student counselors and 5 Mandarin teachers, whose main responsibilities are the planning and policy making of international education of FMU, the construction of management system, teaching staff and teaching materials, course construction, the admission of international students, the management of international students’ education, residential life and foreign affairs, and so on.
Fujian Medical University has started the enrollment of international studentssince 1995. Then the scale continuously grows. In 2009, FMU was approved by Ministry of Education to enroll MBBS students. In 2011, after passing the assessment of Ministry of Education, FMU became one of the universities that are entitled to enroll CSC Scholarship students. In 2013, FMU passed the assessment of MBBS teaching program by Special Inspection Team from Ministry of Education.
Currently, there are about 400 international students from over 40 countriesin FMU. Most of them are enrolled in undergraduate programs or postgraduate programs in clinical medicine that are taught in English or other medical programs taught in Chinese (for CSC Scholarshipstudents). 748 teachers are teaching theoretical courses and laboratory courses in English and acting as tutors of clinical trainees and interns, of which 108 are teachers from FMU and 640 are teachers from affiliated hospitals.

Campus
Fujian Medical University consist of two main campus, covering over 876,710 square meters. Currently, the University consists of 17 college and departments, 22 undergraduate majors (aspects), 22 doctor-degree locations and 59 master-degree locations. It was conferred the right to recruit Taiwanese students by itself and the students from foreign countries, Hong Kong and Macao. There are more than 1600 postgraduates, 9300 undergraduates and 8700 vocational students. The school was affirmed as the key constructive university by Fujian Provincial Government and passed through the teaching evaluation of undergraduate education with good achievements in 2003.

Founded in 1937, Fujian Medical University (FMU) has become a provincial key university for priority development focusing on medicine and paying attention to harmonious development of multiple disciplines, such as science, management, law, arts and engineering. Through 80 years’ construction and development, it has developed an integral education system offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctor’s degree programs, integrating teaching, scientific research, medical treatment, medical prevention and social services. In addition, the university is regarded as Fujian training center for medical health personnel, Fujian medical science research center and Fujian medicine-based prevention and health care center. In 2017, the university ranks 130th among China colleges and universities and 2nd among those of Fujian Province in the list of “Ranking of China Best Colleges and Universities” according to Shanghai Ranking’s Chineses University Rankings, which is designed for ranking national well-known colleges and universities, with focus on education and teaching quality assessment. For the past 80 years since its establishment, the university has educated more than 100 thousand medical talents for the nation and regions, including Chen Keji, the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Jiang Xiaoying, the Florence Nightingale Medal winner, ect.
FMU is located in Fuzhou, with two campuses located at Shangjie and Taijiang respectively, covering a total area of 100 hectares with a floor area of more than 420,000 square meters. FMU has set up 20 schools and provides 27 majors. There are 6 doctor programs in Level I academic disciplines and 2 doctor programs in Level II academic disciplines, 9 master programs in Level I academic disciplines and 1 master program in Level II academic disciplines, 6 master programs in professional disciplines, 2 research stations that offer postdoctoral fellowships (for Clinical Medicine and Basic Medical Sciences), 3 academician workstation. There are over 5304 staff members on post, among which there are over 736 teachers on campus. Among the professional teachers,56% possess the postgraduate degree and 55.2% are on the senior professional posts. There are 60PhD tutors, 469 tutors for master students, four national outstanding specialists,100 sharing the special subsidy of the state council, three outstanding specialists of Health Ministry and 16 provincial outstanding specialists.
The University has 8 affiliated hospitals, 24 teaching hospitals (including 2 clinical colleges) and more than 20 professional teaching bases. A flawless net of clinical teaching and practical teaching base has been formed.
The University library has collection of 1,430,000 volumes, and with the space of 25600 square meters.
The University has 1 research site of postdoctoral, 65 bases for drug clinical trial of the state, 13 provincial key courses, 8 preferable developer courses of provincial science and technology committee,6 school key courses, 6 provincial key medical specialties, 5 provincial top medicine-character specialties and 3 provincial key laboratories, which are undertaking huge scientific tasks with remarkable achievements. 4. Chinese Learning Scholarship for International Students
A. Candidate: Full-time self-funded international undergraduates with student status
B. Criteria: each student RMB 450 to 1,200
C. Application Criteria:

b. Candidates should pass all exams of Chinese courses and take the HSK test before the end of the sixth semester with a score above 180.
c. Candidates should take the HSK test before the end of the ninth semester (before taking clinical practice) with a score above 180.
d. Candidates who take the HSK tests of successively increased levels with a score above 180 can respectively apply for corresponding scholarships according to the above provisions.

5. Da Bo Scholarship for International Students:

Others
1. After arriving in China, scholarship students should conform to the relevant provisions of Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship and are not allowed to change the university. The program and duration of study are also not allowed to be changed in principle.
2. According to the Annual Appraisal Procedures for Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship, scholarship students should apply for the scholarship every year and be annually appraised.
3. Scholarship students who have to suspend the study due to serious diseases should go home for recuperation and afford their own traveling expenses; the scholarship for students who were approved by the university to suspend the study will be temporarily suspended and retained for up to a year. The scholarship for students who suspend the study due to other reasons will not be retained.
