Heidelberg University Germany is one of the oldest & prestigious universities in the world. It was established in the year 1386. Heidelberg comprises three major campuses: the humanities are predominantly located in Heidelbergโ€™s Old Town, the natural sciences and medicine in the Neuenheimer Feld quarter, and the social sciences within the inner-city suburb Bergheim. Admission Requirements: International applicants must satisfy the following requirements for fulfill their eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate has to submit an official certified copy or transcript of the certificate of higher education entrance qualification which entitles the holder to higher education in the respective country of origin.Including the corresponding lists with individual grades
  • In addition (with German and English documents) a certified translation into German or English language is required. The German general university entrance qualification (Abitur) can be submitted as an uncertified copy.
  • Only if applicable: Unauthorized copy or transcript of the certificate of the final exam passed at a German Studienkolleg including the individual score sheet.
  • If applicable: Official certified copies or transcripts of overseas higher education entrance examinations, including the corresponding list of individual marks and, if available, the letter of admission from a foreign university. All documents must be submitted either in German or English.
  • All the official copies or transcripts of all the previously attended universities and their certificates obtained (colleges, academies, etc.) including the associated lists of grades per semester or academic year.Again, it must be either in German or English.Only if applicable.
  • Officially certified copies of all transcript of records per semester or academic year, if the course has not yet been completed & documents must be in English or German.
  • German language knowledge proof (uncertified copy)
  • Unauthorized copy of the passport or identity card (page with name in Latin transcription)
  • Printout of the compulsory online self-test for study orientation for the admission of an undergraduate degree at a university in Baden-Wรผrttemberg

Note: For admission to subjects with local restrictions, i.e. university implied restrictions/selection process, all certified documents along with the application for admission must be submitted once. Certified documents are only required once, in other cases, a simple copy of the required document(s) will suffice.

German Language Requirements International Students

The German proficiency examination at the University of Heidelberg is called as the โ€œDeutsche Sprachprรผfung fรผr den Hochschulzugang (DSH)โ€. In order to enroll in the course, applicants or candidates must achieve a minimum score of DSH-2 in this examination.

*Some study programs require a higher level of German proficiency.

  • To get admission in the University of Heidelberg, applicants do not need to show a DSH certificate with their application if they have not yet passed such an exam. But in case of admission to a study program, applicants must pass the DSH examination at the University of Heidelberg in order to get admission
  • The DSH exam generally takes place at the end of September for winter programs & at the end of March for study programs starting in the Summer session. The Test generally consists of two parts 1. Oral 2. Written
  • Also, applicants must make note that the fee of the exam must be paid in cash on the day of the exam. In the case of new admissions, information about the time and place of the DSH examination can be found in the letter of admission.

*Please note that the DSH exam can only be taken by students who have been admitted to the University of Heidelberg (students must be in possession of a letter of admission).

In order to pass/clear the DSH exam at the DSH-2 level, applicants should complete at least 1,000-1,200 hours of German language instruction at a recognized institution (e.g. the Goethe-Institute). The Proof of the same must be included in the application dossier.

Visa Process for International Students

For EU nationals: They don’t require a visa to enter the Republic of Germany.

Non-EU Nationals: Required with some exceptions

Process:

  • If the application was accepted, then the candidates have to locate the nearest German embassy and submit all the following documents: Copy of passport, 2 passport size photographs, certificate of birth, etc.
  • Candidate have to submit Proof of Financial Resources โ€œFinanzierungsnachweisโ€
  • Also, applicants have to provide proof of university admission.
  • If you satisfy all the mentioned requirements then you can expect the visa in 3-4 weeks.
