University’s Maurice Deane School of Law is located on Long Island, which puts law students about 25 miles away from New York City, home to large law firms, corporations, nonprofit organizations and more. Second- and third-year law students can use the school’s location to their advantage by securing unpaid externships.

Through Hofstra’s clinics, law students can get hands-on training working in areas such as youth advocacy, community and economic development, and immigration. Hofstra is also home to a variety of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Applied Legal Reasoning, the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and the Perry Weitz Institute for the Study of Mass Torts.

Students interested in pursuing two degrees at once can consider Hofstra’s joint J.D./MBA program, offered in conjunction with the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, or the joint J.D./Master of Public Health program through the School of Health Sciences and Human Services. Each joint degree program can be completed in four years.
