Top 10 German Universities to Study Psychology
Psychology is quite a sensitive field to study, especially if you are doing it in a foreign country. The psychology schools initially following different approaches towards the study of mind, following different psychology masters as a direction offer direction based syllabuses that students might find difficult to choose. In Germany, as in any other developed country there are numerous Universities that provide for quality and innovative study programs concerning the field of Psychology, albeit as in every other country every University takes a stand on which are supposedly the best methods into developing this complex subject. - Citation per Publication – Average number of citations per publication. The number of citations per publications states how often the publications of the scientists of the faculty were on average quoted by other academics, meaning how pivotal the published contributions were to research.
- International Orientation – International orientation of the course(s), composition of different facts: obligatory stays abroad/joint degree program; percentage of international students; internationality of the scientific staff; percentage of classes given in foreign language. A certain number of points can be gathered from the four areas, with a maximum of 14 points (10 for German language and literature). The top-group is reached with 6 points (4 for German language and literature), the middle group with at least 2 points. With less than 2 points a course assigned to the bottom group. On the faculty/department-level, the result of the best course of the faculty/department is displayed.
- Contact to Students – Students assessed Co-operation with other students and contacts to other students. An indicator for the atmosphere at the faculty.
- Research Orientation – Which tertiary institutions are the leading ones according to the opinion of the professors in research? Naming the own tertiary institution was not taken into consideration.
- Study Organization – Students assessed among other things the completeness of the courses offered in respect of the study regulations, the access opportunities to compulsory events and the co-ordination of the courses offered with the examination regulations.

JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

BOCHUM UNIVERSITY RUHR

MANNHEIM UNIVERSITY
The Department of Psychology at the University of Mannheim is one of the leading research and teaching institutions in Germany. KONSTANZ UNIVERSITY
Psychology is one of six disciplines at the Faculty of Sciences. Its research activity makes it one of the most active and successful psychology departments in Germany. Regarding research and teaching, the University focuses on future challenges therefore it emphasizes the public relevance of neuroscience and social sciences. About 625 students are currently enrolled in our various programs, with approximately 112 students beginning the bachelor’s program each winter term. ULM UNIVERSITY
The Institute of Education and Educational Psychology at Ulm University was founded in the mid-1980s for the purpose of offering complementary subjects in the Media and Computer Science program as well as Teacher training programs. This is the reason why the Institute of Psychology and Education (as it is called today) belongs to the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences. Students that are introduced to the fundamentals of psychology, methodology get an overview of different fields of application. They can attain both, a vocational qualification in psychology as well as a solid background to continue in a Master program. Courses in methodology offer a basic but also a comprehensive introduction to psychology and its diverse methods. Fundamental courses provide essential knowledge about human experience and behavior. GIESSEN UNIVERSITY
The University of Gießen is among the oldest institutions of higher educations in the German-speaking world. Although the university has no defined campus, buildings and facilities are grouped together according to their subject areas and situated in various locations around Gießen. At the Department of Psychology currently there are about 850 students that major in psychology. The subject currently comprises 15 professors and three assistant professors. Thus the entire spectrum of scientific psychology is represented in research and teaching. The Giessen Department of Psychology is also characterized by strong Application subjects. These include in particular the industrial and organizational psychology, clinical psychology, educational psychology and legal psychology.
FREIGURG UNIVERSITY
Since the winter semester of 2007/2008, the Department of Psychology in Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg has started offering the Bachelor of Science degree program in Psychology. Moreover, one can also take psychology as a minor subject in the Bachelor of Arts study in combination with liberal arts major and another minor course of study. A common misconception is that the psychology primarily deals with disturbed behavior and mental health problems. Another popular view is the equation of psychology and psychoanalysis – the therapy on the famous “couch”. Both, however, are only some of the topics of psychology, offered by this department which moreover has many other and very different faces.
