Standardized Tests
The TOEFL and IELTS are the most common standardized tests required by McGill. Both exams are used to measure your English proficiency, but they’re not created equal. The TOEFL is more widely accepted in Canada than the IELTS, so if you’re applying from abroad and don’t have a strong knowledge of Canadian universities, it’s best to prepare for that exam instead.
The TOEFL consists of four sections: writing (two essays), reading comprehension, listening comprehension and speaking.
