Admissions Process

  • The MSBMS Program admits for fall enrollment annually. Applications must be submitted by midnight on May 21, 2021.
  • A non-refundable fee of $50 for domestic applicants and $150 for international applicants is due when the application is submitted.
  • Applications must be complete by June 4, 2021. All required materials must be received for an application file to be considered complete and eligible for review. Each applicant will be notified by email when his/her application file is complete. Only complete application files will be reviewed.
  • The MSBMS Admissions Committee will evaluate each applicant holistically based on their academic record, test scores, personal qualities and personal goals. During the application review, applicants may be contacted for a phone interview with a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Complete applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.  A decision may take four to six weeks after an applicant receives the notice that their application is complete. Applicants will be notified of admissions decisions by email.
  • Accepted applicants are required to submit a $50 non-refundable deposit to hold their spot in the program. The fee will be applied to tuition upon enrollment. If an applicant submits a deposit and decides not to enroll in the fall, the deposit will be forfeited. All deposits must be submitted according to the deadline stated in the applicant’s acceptance email.

Minimum Admissions Requirements

  • One-year coursework with the corresponding laboratories for the following subjects:
    • General Biology
    • General or Inorganic Chemistry
    • Organic Chemistry
    • Physics
      Undergraduate degree and required coursework must be complete by August 15, before fall enrollment.
  • A B.S. or B.A. degree from a regionally-accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a four-point scale.
  • A professional school or graduate school entrance exam within the previous two calendar years. Official scores must be submitted by June 4, 2021.
    • Scores at or above the following values are preferred: GRE- 300, with 148 or above on components; MCAT- 494; and, DAT- 17, academic average.
    • International students must also submit scores from the TOEFL examination.
      Applicants already holding a master’s degree or high are exempt from submitting test scores; however, a graduate degree transcript must be submitted as a part of the required application materials.
  • Two letters of reference from college professors or other individuals who have taught or have supervised the work of the applicant.
  • An essay of approximately 750 words discussing your educational goals related to the master’s program, your career goals utilizing the master’s degree, and a summary of your experience related to your career goals (such as shadowing health professionals, employment in a healthcare setting, and volunteering related to the profession).

The Medical Staff of Mercer Health created a scholarship program in 2020 to support medical students from Mercer County and surrounding counties, as well as medical students who have participated in rotations at Mercer Health, by offering scholarships to those individuals. 

The Mercer Health Medical Student Scholarship will award $2,000 to a medical school student who has shown a strong connection to Mercer Health or the surrounding communitites. The scholarship will be awarded for a one-year period and provided directly to the the student.

The 2021 Mercer Health Medical Student Scholarship applications are due by October 1, 2021.


  1. Applicant must be a United States citizen.
  2. Applicant must be a resident of Mercer County or one of the adjacent counties for at least 12 months before registering as a medical student or have participated in a rotation at Mercer Health.
  3. Applicant must be enrolled full time in an accredited medical school.
  4. Applicant must be enrolled in or entering his/her first, second, third or fourth year of medical school.
  5. The Selection Committee will review all applications.
  6. Only online applications will be accepted.  Paper applications will not be considered.  A transcript of their medical school courses/grades is also required.
  7. The Selection Committee does not discriminate on the basis of creed, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, sex, or sexual orientation in awarding scholarships.

Applicant must use the online application portal to submit the following:

  1. Completed scholarship application
  2. A letter, on school letterhead, from the applicant’s medical school verifying that he/she is enrolled full time as a medical student at that institution.

Payment of Scholarship:

  1. The scholarship will be for $2,000.
  2. Scholarships will be awarded for a one-year period.
  3. The payment of the designated amount will be made directly to the student.
