Admission for external transfer students to Stern is extremely competitive. Nearly all of our available space is given to applicants who are already students at NYU. The maximum amount of credits you can carry over to Stern from your previous institution(s) is 64 credits.
To be considered as a transfer applicant to Stern, you must:
- Apply for the fall semester only;
- Be in your first-year or sophomore year; and
- Have completed or in the process of completing the required coursework below.
Required Coursework for Transfers
If you wish to transfer into the sophomore year at Stern, you should have completed the following at your current institution:
- Calculus I or higher
- Writing/Composition (1-2 semesters)
If you wish to transfer into the junior year at Stern, you should have completed following at your current institution:
- Calculus I or higher
- Classes for non-math majors do not satisfy this requirement
- You may use a score of 4 or 5 on AP BC Calculus, a 6 or 7 on a higher-level IB Math, or an A or B in GCE A-level math to satisfy this requirement
- Writing/Composition (1-2 semesters)
- Introductory-level Microeconomics
- Blended, one-semester microeconomics-macroeconomics courses are not sufficient
