Tuition and fees are assessed based on the number of credit hours of enrollment, Ohio residency and program. The tuition schedules below do not include special class fees. Ohio University reserves the right to make, without prior notice, any fee adjustments that may become necessary.

Fee Descriptions

Tuition-Related Fees

Instructional Fee: This required fee covers costs associated with instruction and is a component of tuition.

General Fee: The general fee is a required component of tuition, and it provides funding for non-instructional student services. The fee is charged to every student who is enrolled in at least one class. The services and activities supported by the fee promote students’ emotional and physical well-being, as well as their cultural and social development outside the classroom.

Non-Resident Surcharge: This required fee applies to all students who do not qualify for Ohio residency. It is used to fund those instructional costs the state pays for on behalf of qualifying Ohio residents.

Program Fee: The program fee is a required component of tuition. This fee is program-specific, and it provides funding for educational components of the program. Consult with the program director for additional information. Refer to the Off Campus Graduate Programs tuition schedule for a list of programs that require a program fee.

Specialized Services and Materials Fee: This required fee is program-specific, and it provides funding for specialized materials and services. This fee does not cover the cost of textbooks or basic educational supplies. Consult with the program director for additional information. Refer to the Off Campus Graduate Programs tuition schedule for a list of programs that require a specialized services and materials fee.

Technology Fee: This required fee is based on the student’s college. This fee supports instructional technology used in student labs and classrooms.

Student Info System/Network Fee: This required fee applies to all undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in all programs. The Information System and Network fee is used to fund improved access to and assistance with information technology.

Waivable Fees

Student Health Insurance:ย Students enrolled on the Athens Campus for 5 or more credit hours are automatically assessed theย Student Health Insurance. You may opt out of the Student Health Insurance if you already have a health insurance provider. If you are eligible to waive the Student Health Insurance, the waiver option and waiver deadline will be available on your My OHIO Student Center once your registration charges have been assessed for the term. A waiver is required only once each academic year.

WellBeing:ย Theย WellBeingย Fee was created in 2008 as an optional enhancement to student health care. It works with your medical insurance to reduce the costs of health services as well as expanding student health care options on campus. Every Athens campus student is automatically enrolled at registration for the term. The waiver option and waiver deadline will be available on your My OHIO Student Center once your registration charges have been assessed for the term. A waiver is required once each term.

Student Legal Service:ย Theย Center for Legal Servicesย is a law office for Ohio University students. Two licensed attorneys provide students with legal representation, advice, and education. CSLS also provides contract reviews, mediation services and notary service. There is no limit on the number of times students can use the service during the term. Every Athens campus student is automatically enrolled for this service at registration for the term. The waiver option and waiver deadline will be available on your My OHIO Student Center once your registration charges have been assessed for the term. A waiver is required once each term.

Note: Students enrolled in eCampus or Regional classes only are not assessed Waivable Fees.
