About the Basic to Intermediate Wildlife Photography Course (Wildlife 102)
This course is for wildlife enthusiasts who would like to make the most of their time in the wild and turn their snapshots into great shots. We cover the most important creative and technical aspects related to wildlife and avian photography. The course ends with a full one-day practical session where you will get the opportunity to practise what you have learnt in class under supervision.

The Basic Wildlife Photography Course is a hybrid course, meaning it is a mixture of interactive online classes, self-study and face-to-face sessions.
Course details
10 classes consisting of interactive online sessions, self-study videos and a full day practical excursion:
- We cover the most important aspects of wildlife photography, from the creative aspects to optimising your camera and settings. Sufficient time is given in each class to review materials and practice what you have learnt.
- Practical session: The group will meet at a local game reserve for a one-day practical session and game drive. The aim of this session is to gain insight into Brunaโs thought processes when creating a wildlife photograph and to give you an opportunity to test your new camera settings and skills.
- Class materials: Reference guide with cheat sheets. Access to an online classroom with reference materials, videos and class assignments.

The basic to intermediate wildlife photography course is presented by award-winning photographer,ย Bruna Mentrup-Nortje. Bruna is a professional wildlife photographer, traveler and adventurer. Her philosophy is that anyone can acquire technical skills but the prerequisite for becoming a wildlife photographer is a deep connection with nature.

Requirements
- It is expected that attendees know the basics of photography such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, metering, focusing, etc. If you do not yet understand the basics, we recommend that you take a look at ourย Basic to Intermediate Photography Course.
- A DSLR or Mirrorless camera with advanced or manual program modes and a sturdy tripod.
- For the practical session, we recommend a lens with a minimum focal length of 300 mm. Longer lenses will be a bonus, but we will not be adding brackets to the game drive vehicles as we will be shooting handheld. Keep this in mind when using heavy lenses like 400 mm โ 600 mm. If you do not have the right lens, we recommend that you rent one for the practical session. We will discuss lenses in class.
- You will need a computer for assignments and to review class materials.
- Since we will be covering basic workflow for wildlife photography, having attended ourย Lightroom Courseย before this course will be extremely helpful.
