How Much Financial Aid Do Students at Orion Technical College Get?

The Cost of Attendance listed above might be intimidating. The good news is that most students donโ€™t end up paying that full price to attend Orion Technical College. Financial aid helps make up the difference between the Cost of Attendance and what families can actually afford.

Here we’ll cover how many students get Orion Technical College financial aid, what types of aid they get, and how much.

A Brief Intro to Financial Aid

Aid comes in many forms, including:

  • Need-based grants
  • Merit-based scholarships
  • Student loans

This financial aid comes from a few different places:

  • Federal aid comes from the federal government, or is subsidized by the federal government.
  • Institutional aid comes from your school itself.

Generally, itโ€™s better for MORE students to receive HIGH amounts of financial aidโ€”this means students pay less for college.

Letโ€™s take a look at how Orion Technical College compares to other schools.

How Much Debt is Typical for Students at Orion Technical College?

Aside from grants, the other major way to pay for college is with student loans. Student loans arenโ€™t free sums of money – you borrow a certain amount to attend Orion Technical College, and then pay it back with smaller monthly payments after you graduate.

The more student loan money you borrow, the more debt youโ€™ll end up with after graduation. Ideally, you want to minimize your student debt as much as possible. Less debt means less of a financial burden once you leave school.

Itโ€™s generally a bad sign if a school has many students taking out a lot of loans. This indicates that graduates have to worry about paying back big sums of money once they leave school.

To address the amount and type of debt that students take on, this section will cover:

  • Loan Overview
  • Federal Loans
  • Other Loans

Letโ€™s see what students at Orion Technical College have to deal with:

Loan Overview

First, letโ€™s talk about how many students at Orion Technical College actually have to take out any student loans at all. The ideal goal is to graduate with little to no debt.

Itโ€™s very common for college grads in the US to graduate with some debt, but high percentages of students taking on loans at a particular school is a big red flag. In contrast, low percentages of students with loans is a sign that Orion Technical College tuition is affordable.

So how many students actually end up taking out loans at Orion Technical College?

92% Have ANY Loans

This is 21% higher than the average for Private for-profit schools, which is 71%.

High numbers of students with loans is a red flag, and Orion Technical College has a very high loan rate. Nearly every student has to take out loans to afford Orion Technical College tuition and costs. This often means that the financial aid policy at the school is relatively weak, and grants aren’t enough to cover total cost.

In the worst case, some schools, especially private for-profit colleges, provide subpar education for a very high cost. We’ll talk more about this below.

To break this down further, we have to understand how much actual debt the average person takes out while in school. Next, weโ€™ll look at student debt amounts.

Federal Loans

Now that you have a handle on the basic loan information for Orion Technical College, weโ€™ll get into some more nitty-gritty information on the types and amounts of loans that students typically have.

Weโ€™ll start with federal loans because, in general, federal loans are preferable to private loans. Federal loans tend to have low interest rates, which means they cost less in the long run. They may come with other perks (like subsidization or even options for loan forgiveness).

High percentages or amounts of federal loans still isnโ€™t a great sign – again, you donโ€™t want to see students burdened with too much debt. Generally, schools with strong financial aid programs will have students with more federal loans than private loans.

“I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANY MILITARY G.I. USERS! Most of this review is for the “New” Orion technical college, I was in the middle of my degree when all of the faculty under went management change and oh boy did their priorities change from education and the well being of their employees and students, to searching for the deepest pockets. I am a military veteran who came back to college to further education and now being 2.5 years into this school and am exiting, I cannot believe how atrocious the organization is, I might has well stayed in the Marine Corps. This schools curriculum as far as the EET program is concerned is a joke. 1st.) Introduce a subject 2nd.) Get tested on the subject 3rd.) Hands on How are you going to test the students before you have them do anything on the subject matter, that is idiocrasy at its finest. How many times can you get called by your student body asking for the money they owe them? Well lets see I’ve had 6 yes SIX incidences where the school messed up and I was unable to access my given benefits under Veterans Affairs. And when this issue was brought to their attention (by me because they don’t pay attention) they pointed fingers and tried to blame the VA but its clearly the financial personnel from the college, or else the VA wouldn’t have said they didn’t get my registration for which ever semester nor would NON-VA users be denied their financial imbursements. LIES LIES LIES. I had to pull out loans to be able to afford their mess ups. Very few instructors (most have quit) that are able to actually teach their students. Sitting behind a computer at your desk while your students learn from google or each other is NOT TEACHING, which is seemingly the only thing that ORION has to offer. ORION Technical School is amazing at preparing you for the future if your future entitles you to have a Boss that tells you what to do with the highest expectancy without any context or instructions. Half of the equipment either doesn’t work or is missing components, and it seems to be that instructors have the ability to skip sub sections entirely! (Skipped instruction on cabinet wiring, then were expected to complete a project on cabinet wiring in a later semester) GOOD JOB! This school did NOT shut down or change to online during this Distanced period, they offer zoom but have none of the abilities to properly teach. Many COVID19 cases have come up, do they tell us to not come in the next day our classmate tests positive? Nope, but they’ll give everyone else a quiz when you were going to get tested which you missed and cant make up. The dean walks around not knowing a single thing about any of the degrees they hand out and insists on adding new UNRELATED things to tamper with our grades. EET is EET leave it alone. How great my grade will look even though I don’t know half of the things that were halfway covered in these courses.”
