Dramatic social and economic transformation of China, one of the most populous and rapidly developing nations in the world, is a major historical event of the twentieth century. In connection to this unparalleled transformation, demand for knowledge of what is taking place in China and its global implications is greater than ever before.
The Master of Arts in China Development Studies [MAChDS] programme emphasises a comprehensive understanding of China through its global-local interactions and regional variations in economy, trade, investment, environment, policy making, tourism and urban development. The prime objective of the programme is to educate students to become capable personnel for firms or institutions in both private and public sectors that have strong interest in China-related business and development.
The programme provides an opportunity to local and international students with systematic training and independent research on development issues in contemporary China. The curriculum includes Chinese economies; international trade and foreign direct investment; China’s cultural and urban development; climate change and environmental resources in China; public policies and regional development; China’s environment and sustainable development; globalisation and spatial economic transformation; cultural tourism; sustainable urban and transport planning; land governance and development and a field trip to China. Moreover, the curriculum has a capstone experience component that provides the students a platform to acquire research skills under the supervision of a designated teacher. The Contemporary China Seminar Series is also an integral part of the programme.

What’s this program about?
The Master of China-Europe Business Studies is a major in the Master of Global Management. It is a 12 month full time program, taking place inseveral European and Chinese campuses. During the final two months you will be working on a China Consulting Project in Europe and/or China, according to the project location.
The program combines academic courses with an in-depth view of all functional areas of management, seminars on EU-China relations and cross-cultural management, competence development in different business environments and team building for international consulting projects. You will be able to take on a business language course: French/Hungarian for Chinese students and Chinese for the participants from other countries. The program is taught in an interactive way. Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions, analyze business cases, prepare business presentations, report by means of group papers and engage in computer-assisted exercises. The program consists of 4 modules:
- Management foundations (Antwerp)
- EU-China relations and cross-culture management (Antwerp/Brussels)
- Local competence building (Shanghai, Budapest or Angers)
- China consulting project (China and/or Europe)

Candidates should hold a degree that represent 4 years of full-time study at university level, resulting in a master’s degree or an equivalent bachelor’s degree (a full time, 4-year curriculum, excluding orientation or preparatory years). It is possible to apply before you have completed your studies. In this case, the selection procedure will take place under the assumption that you graduate from your present studies before starting the program. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required.
After the successful completion of the joint program and the master project/thesis, you will graduate with a joint degree:
- Master degree Master of Global Management: China-Europe Business Studies from Antwerp Management School. The Master of Global Management is an official Master degree recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Flemish Community. The program is AACSB and NVAO accredited.
- Certificate of International Business from ESSCA
