A student who successfully completes this course will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of computer science as applied to real world problems.

Apply knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming techniques to solve complex problems using object oriented programming languages such as Java or C++ or JavaScript.

The CS undergraduate program has a strong foundation in mathematics, science and engineering. Its curriculum includes substantial coursework in mathematics, including discrete structures, algorithms, probability theory and statistics; science, including computer systems organization (computer architecture), operating systems (e.g., UNIX), database systems; and engineering principles such as logic design (digital logic circuits), embedded systems (microprocessors), software engineering (programming languages).

The CS undergraduate program at SDSU offers opportunities for students to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering with concentrations in business information systems or scientific computation. The BS degree allows students to obtain training leading toward careers in industry or government laboratories where computer scientists are needed to develop software applications that support business or scientific processes. The BS degree also provides an excellent foundation for advanced study at the master’s level or for continuing
