Seneca College Accreditation

Seneca College - September | January | May 2021 Intake - IELTSNPTE

Toronto, December 7, 2016 – Seneca is the first college in Canada to receive accreditation by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) under the CPA National Recognition and Accreditation Standards for Post-Secondary Institutions.

CPA Accreditation was received for the School of Accounting and Financial Services’ new certificate program in Professional Accountancy (ACY) combined with the accounting stream of courses in the Bachelor of Commerce – International Accounting and Finance (IAF). Students in the CPA-Accredited program acquire advanced knowledge and competencies in financial accounting, taxation, assurance, performance management, and finance.

CPA Accreditation allows successful graduates of the Professional Accountancy program who have completed Seneca’s Bachelor of Commerce – International Accounting and Finance, Accounting Stream to complete the core and elective modules of the CPA Professional Education Program in four months of rigorous, concentrated full-time study and enter with advanced standing into the CPA PEP Capstone 1 and 2 modules. Upon successful completion of these modules, students will be eligible to write the Common Final Examination (CFE).

“CPA accreditation by CPA Ontario means that students who are enrolled in Seneca’s accounting degree will have a direct route to achieving their Chartered Professional Accountant designation,” said Karen Murkar, Chair of the School of Accounting and Financial Services. “CPA accreditation is recognition that together, Seneca’s baccalaureate and graduate-level accounting programs will successfully prepare students for the CPA PEP Capstone 1 and 2 modules leading to the CFE and, ultimately, to the CPA designation.”

This accreditation builds on the longstanding recognition of Seneca’s accounting degree by the CPA profession and highlights the quality of the School’s accounting programs and fifty-year reputation for accounting excellence in the province of Ontario.

“Achieving CPA Accreditation demonstrates Seneca’s commitment to excellence in accounting education, which will serve the best interests of the school, its students, and our profession for many years to come. CPA Accreditation was a significant undertaking that involved a formal submission, an external review by an independent academic committee, and a site visit. We are very proud to have accredited and partnered with Seneca College and look forward to building a strong partnership together” said Richard Piticco, CPA, CA, CFA, Vice-President, Student Services,  Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.
