Due to increased enrollment at Sheridan College, the Musical Theatre Program has become one of the more competitive programs of study. Although we can positively state that our acceptance rate is higher than many of our peer schools, we would like to present an accurate and realistic description of the program and how difficult it is to get accepted.
Sheridan Musical Theatre is renowned for being a leader in the professional musical theatre training industry. Sheridan Musical Theatre audition requirements
Sheridan’s Music Theatre program is designed specifically to provide training in singing, acting, dance and theatre from some of the most respected artistic professionals in the field. The program is uniquely designed with a focus on honing your skills as a performer by offering broad course options combined with intense practical experience. It will give you an excellent foundation for a successful career in music theatre or other arts-related fields, while also offering you flexibility to customize your studies to suit your individual needs. Please note that this chart provides information about acceptance rates to Sheridan’s Bachelor of Music Theatre Program (does not include acceptance rates to the Minor in Music Theatre).
The Sheridan College Department of Theatre offers a limited number of drama placements to incoming first year students each year. Many factors are considered when making decisions regarding acceptance, including: Grade 12 academic performance, artistic and creative ability, motivation and interest in the field of theatre, extracurricular involvement with theatre or dance, and references from previous teachers.
Applicant Selection. Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses), and on their experience as demonstrated in a comprehensive audition.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:
- One English, Grade 12 (ENG4U)
- Five additional Grade 12 subjects at the U or M level
- Minimum 65% overall average
- Two semesters of postsecondary education including required courses with minimum 65% overall average.
Sheridan College Application Selection Process
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses), and on their experience as demonstrated in a comprehensive audition. Please note we do not accept letters of reference from applicants.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
Sheridan College theatre production
Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a further seven-year term starting July 28, 2017 and subject to renewal thereafter. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario Colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g., acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).
