Freshman Admission Requirements

For admission to SDSU, we look for one of the following academic achievements:

An 18 ACT composite score (or SAT Math and Critical Reading subscores total 870 or higher if taken before March 1, 2016; SAT Math and Reading and Writing subscores total 950 or higher if taken March 1, 2016 or later), OR
A high school cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher, OR
A ranking in the top 60 percent of graduating class
Students should also complete the following core courses with a โ€œCโ€ average or above:

  • 4 years of English (or ACT English sub-score of 18)
  • 3 years of advanced mathโ€”Algebra I and higher (or ACT math sub-score of 20)
  • 3 years of laboratory science (or ACT science reasoning sub-score of 17)
  • 3 years of social science (or ACT reading sub-score of 17)
  • 1 year of fine arts (includes vocal, instrumental and studio arts)
  • Basic computer skills (students should have basic keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet and internet skills)
