Stanford admit rate drops to record-low 3.95% for the Class of 2025 | The Stanford Daily

At Stanford, we don’t just admit studentsโ€”we admit them as a class. The university’s holistic review process means that we get to know our students as individuals, and not just as numbers on an application form. Because of this, it is impossible to quantify the breadth and depth of an incoming class to Stanford. We practice holistic admission, and admission statistics can only narrowly describe facets of a class rich in life experiences, perspectives, talents, and accomplishments. We provide these statistics as a snapshot of a Stanford class selected through a rigorous and thoughtful holistic review.

Class of 2025 Waitlist Notification Dates and Stats

UPDATE #3 (6/30)

Class of 2025 Early Admissions Trends - Top Tier Admissions

For those of you who have been waitlisted at one of your top choices, here’s a list of 2020 waitlist statistics for several popular private and public schools, along with notification dates and latest status where available.

Our sample of waitlist statistics from 100 private and public institutions paints the following picture:

  • The number of students admitted from the waitlist rose 97 percent year over year from 22,223 in 2019 to 43,867 in 2020
  • On average, 29 percent of students accepting a place on a waitlist were admitted in 2020, up from 18 percent in 2019
  • 33 percent of the schools admitted 10 percent or less of the students accepting a place on the waitlist last year (vs. 48 percent in 2019)
  • 17 percent of the schools admitted 5 percent or less (vs. 29 percent in 2019)
  • 3 percent admitted no one (vs. 8 percent in 2019)

These results come as no surprise given the uncertainty brought on by the pandemic last cycle. That said, we strongly caution against assuming a similar level of waitlist activity this cycle as much of this uncertainty is now behind us and most schools are resuming normal operations.

Interested in studying โ€œthe skill of the centuryโ€ and accessing a global market that is worth over $300 billion? Look no further than artificial intelligence (AI) and check out our latest list of colleges with strong undergraduate AI programs in the United States. The term โ€œartificial intelligenceโ€ was coined as early as 1956 and refers to the broad concept of making it possible for machines to perform human-like tasks, such as solving problems, making decisions, understanding language, and processing sounds and images. However, AI only became increasingly popular recently, and along with this rise in popularity came spikes in investment, which led to rapid growth in the AI industry.

The demand for skilled workers has increased dramatically over the past few years due to an increase in demand for more intelligent machines and robots that can help us carry out simple tasks or even perform complex ones on their own. AI experts who have a deep understanding of this technology are highly sought after by companies across all industriesโ€”not just tech giants like Google or Appleโ€”and are often paid handsomely for their expertise.

In fact, according to data from LinkedIn’s latest Global Recruiting Trends Report 2019

Studying AI prepares students to solve problems across a variety of fields and introduces them to a huge job market that continues to expand today. Drawing from U.S. News, TechTarget, CSRankings, Computer Science Degree Hub, Great Value Colleges and Value Colleges, we’ve curated a list of some of the top undergraduate programs in artificial intelligence across the nation. Colleges Where Female Applicants Have an Edge

QUESTION: what happens when a college wants a balanced class but has a much smaller female applicant pool to draw on?

ANSWER: higher admission rates for females!

Like our previous post, we looked at several popular coed institutions and searched for places where there was a 15% or greater admission rate advantage, this time for women.  The result: a list of 46 schools for qualified applicants to consider.

The list is dominated by institutions strong in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), but you’ll also find some unexpected names like Connecticut College and Kenyon College.

The Early Admission Advantage (Part 3 of 3)

PART III: PUTTING EARLY ADMISSION STRATEGIES TO WORK

targets2In Part II of this series developed an early admission strategy based on your competitiveness as an applicant, your college list, and your strength of commitment to the top schools on your list.  If you’re a competitive applicant with strong qualifications, we recommend that you:

  • Take full advantage of Early Action for all the schools on your list
  • Apply Restrictive Early Action to your top school or when the restrictions don’t inhibit your ability to take advantage of early admission programs at higher ranked schools
  • Apply Early Decision I when you are strongly committed to attending your top choice school and have no concerns about affordability
  • Apply Early Decision II if you have been denied admission to your top choice school, you’re strongly committed to attending this ED II school as your next best option, and have no concerns about affordability

With this early admission strategy in place, let’s put it to work in Part III against a couple of hypothetical applicants.

The Early Admission Advantage (Part 2 of 3)

PART II: WHEN AND HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EARLY ADMISSION PROGRAMS

img-early

In Part I of this series we covered the fundamentals of college early admission programs.  We learned that:

  • Colleges offer early admission programs to manage yield, lock up prized applicants and improve prestige in the process
  • There can be as much as a 2-4x difference in admit rates between early and regular decision applicants
  • Because there is often a high proportion of an enrolled class coming through early admission, your chances of getting in via regular decision are actually worse than you might think

In short, you should always consider early admission programs as part of your college plan.  But under what conditions does it make sense and how do you apply it against your list of schools?  This is the topic for Part II.

Class of 2025 Admission Rates

Here are Some of the First Admission Rates for the Class of 2025

How to Get Into Stanford: Data & Admissions Strategies - College Transitions

While the regular school year is finishing out virtually for many students in response to the coronavirus, itโ€™s still business as usual when it comes to admissions decisions, with colleges releasing their admissions decisions and results through the rest of March.

This has been an usual year for college admissions in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, with continued SAT/ACT interruptions, test-optional admissions, colleges closed for formal and informal visits, increasing application numbers, and more students applying to even more colleges than ever before. All of this has led to an even more competitive year at the most selective colleges in the US, while other schools plan to admit more students than ever before in order to manage enrollment numbers.

UChicago and MIT were some one of the first schools to release decisions this March. It was another competitive year at MIT, with 4% of applicants admitted to the class of 2025, significantly lower than the 7.2% admit rate last year.

Class of 2025 Application Numbers

As far as application numbers go, many schools saw applications skyrocket as more students chose to apply to a wider range of schools in light of widespread test-optional admissions policies. Overall the Common Application saw an 11% increase in submitted applications over last year, but only a 2% increase in unique applicants.

The most competitive colleges and universities saw incredible increases in application numbers, with increases of almost 42% at Harvard, 66% at MIT, 103% at Colgate, and 35% at Boston College, just to name a few.

2025 Ivy League & College Admission Statistics

Stanford admit rate drops to record-low 3.95% for the Class of 2025 | The Stanford Daily

Admission Statistics for the Class of 2025

This year was the โ€œtriple stormโ€ of events that drove up applications and drove down admissions rates: 1 โ€“ the pandemic forced colleges to become โ€œscore optionalโ€ so thousands more students sent in applications to top tier colleges 2 โ€“ because students couldnโ€™t visit colleges, they tended to apply to โ€œbig nameโ€ schools sight unseen and 3 โ€“ up to a fifth of freshman from last year deferred because of Covid so colleges had to โ€œreserveโ€ a lot of spaces and take fewer students this year.

As a result, applications hit all-time highs while admissions rates hit all-time lows. The numbers are insane โ€“ Princeton for example only accepted 3.96% of applicants (and they did not have an early round at all) and all the Ivies were sub-10%. Amherst and Williams were tied at 8% so it wasnโ€™t just the bigger Ivies. We hope next year colleges will take more students but we expect admission rates to stay fairly low, though hopefully not as low as this year which may prove to be the toughest year in college admissions.
