Texas A&M Nursing Program Admission Criteria

Admission to the Texas A&M College of Nursing is competitive. It is strongly recommended that applicants present a GPA above 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Preference is given to students completing the majority of their coursework in Brazos County in the state of Texas.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Prerequisite Coursework GPA. Graduate coursework will not be considered.
• Nursing Science GPA from nutrition, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, chemistry, lifespan growth & development and Texas A&M University core equivalent math course
• HESI Admissions Assessment Exam score
• Timed verbal responses and written assessments
• Community service
• Leadership/involvement in extracurricular and/or professional activities
• TOEFL score, required of international applicants only
• History of withdrawals, repeats or failures will place applicant at a disadvantage

Texas A&M Nursing Acceptance Rate

Over the last five years, Texas A&M Nursing has had a 15% acceptance rate, which means that just 15 out of 100 applicants have been accepted. Their average GPA is 3.8, and because to the COVID 19 Pandemic, admittance rates are expected to be high in 2021. The acceptance rate for the Texas A&M Nursing Program is the percentage of applicants who are accepted out of all those who apply. The higher the acceptance rate, the more tough and competitive the admissions process became.

August 2021 admissions

The college received 210 applications for 88 seats (48 in Bryan-College Station and 40 in Round Rock). Among the students enrolled, the average prerequisite GPA was 3.81, the average Nursing Science GPA was 3.84 and the average cumulative Admissions Assessment HESI score was 92. Overall GPAs of admitted students ranged from 3.11 to 4.0.

August 2020 admissions

The college received 335 applications for 32 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus for the summer, 32 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus for the fall and 35 seats at the Round Rock campus for the fall. Among the students enrolled, the average prerequisite GPA was 3.80, the average Nursing Science GPA was 3.84 and the average cumulative Admissions Assessment HESI score was 92. Prerequisite GPAs of admitted students ranged from 3.3 to 4.0. 

August 2019 admissions

The college received 365 applications for 28 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus for the summer, 28 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus for the fall and 24 seats at the Round Rock campus for the fall. Among the students enrolled, the average prerequisite GPA was 3.88, the average Nursing Science GPA was 3.91 and the average cumulative Admissions Assessment HESI score was 92. Prerequisite GPAs of admitted students ranged from 3.37 to 4.0.

January 2021 admissions

The college received 194 applications for 37 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus. Among the students enrolled, the average prerequisite GPA was 3.87, the average Nursing Science GPA was 3.88 and the average cumulative Admissions Assessment HESI score was a 93.8. Prerequisite GPAs of admitted students ranged from 3.18 to 4.0.

January 2020 admissions

The college received 131 applications for 28 seats at the Bryan-College Station campus. Among the students enrolled, the average prerequisite GPA was 3.77, the average Nursing Science GPA was 3.89 and the average cumulative Admissions Assessment HESI score was a 93. Prerequisite GPAs of admitted students ranged from 3.42 to 4.0.

Texas A&M Accelerated Nursing Program Coursework

Courses may be in progress during the application cycle, however, all courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” by the first class day with one exception. Students accepted for the summer term only may be admitted with up to two outstanding prerequisite courses (science courses excluded). Please see below for a list of required courses. All courses are subject to approval by the College of Nursing when the student applies for admission.

In addition to the required prerequisites listed below, students receiving a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M must satisfy the coursework requirements of the Texas A&M University Core Curriculum.

By the application deadline, applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 prerequisite course credit hours of the 59 hours required. Of those 40, twelve (12) credit hours must be from the following Nursing Science courses: Lifespan Psychology (3), Nutrition (3), Texas A&M Core Math (3 or 4), Chemistry (4), Anatomy & Physiology (8) and Microbiology (4).

Students may repeat prerequisite courses, however, grades earned from both the first and a second attempt will be used to determine the final GPA. Any additional attempts will not be considered. If a grade of “C” is not earned within 2 attempts, the student will not be eligible for admission.
