Tokyo Tech became the first university in Japan to establish Schools that encompass undergraduate and graduate education. Schools offer seamless curricula between bachelor’s and master’s programs and master’s and doctoral programs. Right from enrollment, students can clearly envision the possible academic paths that may be taken, allowing them to make diverse choices and challenges according to their interests and pursuits. Graduate program
The Department offers master and doctor programs. The standard periods for master and doctor programs are two and three years respectively.
In regular program, both Japanese and English are used. A few positions of the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, a.k.a. MEXT) scholarship are available, to cover Japanese language training, preparatory program called research studentship, and degree program (after admission screening).
You can also apply for International Graduate Program (IGP) without prerequisite of Japanese language skills. All lectures in IGP are taught in English. Several different sub-programs of IGP are available as the following.
- You can apply for the standard master and doctor programs respectively. Both domestic and overseas applications are acceptable. The application deadline is late May (overseas) or early July (domestic).
- You can specifically apply for Sustainable Engineering Program (SEP). SEP is provided as Integrated Doctoral Education Program, in which students are expected to study both master and doctor programs continuously. A few positions of the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship are available. Only overseas applications are acceptable. The application deadline is December.
- IDE can offer a few full-funding scholarships by Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) only for those who wish to enroll in master degree program. Please note that the scholarship does not support those who wish to enroll in doctoral program.

Financial support
At the Tokyo Tech, there are several alternatives for the financial support but applicants are strongly encouraged to secure necessary financial resoureces for study by themselves.
Scholarships are available from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), and other private foundations.
A doctor student who has no scholarship is assigned as a research and/or teaching assistant and receive the equivalent amount of stipend to the tuition (only).
Students who have difficulty paying admission and tution fees may be exempted from half the amount of admission fee and/or either the full amount or half the amount of tuition fees, following screening of their petitions.

Global Scientists and Engineer Program (GSEP) is the only English-taught program available at Tokyo Tech. You can apply either as a student supported by MEXT scholarship or a privately-financed international student. You must check the criteria carefully stated in the following categories:
