COVID-19 Temporary Admissions Adjustments (last updated 8/22/2020)

In conjunction with AACOM’s COVID-19 admissions recommendations, TouroCOM-NY will be temporarily adjusting its admissions requirements for the 2020-2021 admissions cycle as follows:

  • All interviews during the 2020-2021 admissions cycle will be conducted remotely.
  • Pass/ Satisfactory Grading – TouroCOM will accept “pass/satisfactory” grading for coursework, including pre-requisite coursework fulfillment, for the Spring and Summer 2020 semester in the context of your entire academic history;
  • Online Coursework – TouroCOM will accept all online coursework for the Spring, Summer, and Fall  2020 semesters;
  • Missing Laboratory Coursework – TouroCOM will review your application without all required laboratory coursework, if you can demonstrate that your institution was unable to provide these courses due to COVID-19; proof of completion will be required prior to matriculation, if accepted;
  • Delayed MCAT scores – Please be aware that TouroCOM-NY normally does not begin application review until mid-August and our next application cycle is scheduled to end on 3/15/2021. Therefore, any applicant who will have delayed MCAT scores due to cancelled and re-scheduled MCAT test dates should not worry. July MCAT scores will be posted to the applicant’s AACOMAS profile just when we are beginning our application review.
  • Physician Letter of Recommendation – TouroCOM will still require a physician letter of recommendation, however, the requirement that the physician’s letter of recommendation be on official letterhead will be waived;
  • Health Care and/ or Extracurricular Experience Hours – TouroCOM does not have a set requirement for experience hours.

The application process varies depending on your programDO applicants apply through Choose DO. MS applicants submit their application directly to us.

For the DO program, we require specific undergraduate coursework, MCAT scores, GPA, other achievements and personal qualities, and, importantly, a strong desire to become an osteopathic physician. Make sure you check out the details on our DO application processrequirements, minimum standards, and interviews. Helping underrepresented minorities practice medicine is a a big part of who we are, and recognizing the high cost of applying to medical school, an application fee waiver may be available.

The MS program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Biological and Physical Sciences is designed for students who seek to eventually complete a degree in the health sciences, and is offered on both the Harlem and Middletown campuses. Admission and successful completion of this program will strengthen your prospects for acceptance into medical, PA, PT, OT and pharmacy schools.
