University of Buckingham
The University of Buckingham is a private university which was established in 1973 and is amongst the oldest private universities in the country. It was given the status of a university in 1983 by Royal Charter. Also, the university is a member of the Independent Universities Group. When the university began to offer traditional degrees, it decided to expand its faculty and increase faculty members as the number of enrolments were increasing rapidly. In 2015, the university opened the School of Medicine and began offering an undergraduate degree programme in the same year. The University of Buckingham Medical School is the first independent not-for-profit medical school in the UK. Buckingham’s four and a half year degree programme is designed to train students to be compassionate and ethical doctors.
The course is divided into two parts: phase one and phase two. Phase one consists of integrated and interdisciplinary units that focus on the clinical context of the body and its system. Students will pick up effective patient communication skills, be able to examine patients clinically and have a thorough understanding of how the body works by the end of Phase one.
