University of Winnipeg Campus and Accommodations

There are 23 main campus buildings on the university’s campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba. University of Winnipeg library collections hold over 750,000 items including videos, books, microfiche, and periodicals. Students of the University participate in men’s and women’s volleyball and basketball teams, and a women’s soccer team. These students represent the university in the national U Sports competitions.

The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA) has a strength of over 10,000 students. The University also has a state-of-the-art Axworthy Health and RecPlex building that provides indoor soccer services and recreation programs as well as researches and student practicum opportunities in education, kinesiology, and applied health.

University of Winnipeg Accommodations

There are two residence halls at the university called McFeetors Hall and Balmoral Houses. Residence halls in the university also have meal plans to suit the needs of students. The housing and meal plan costs between 8,000-15,000 CAD (~4-9 lakh INR) based on the choice of the student.

Amenities include microwave, fridge, common areas, lounges, study areas, televisions, 24-hour security, air conditioners, kitchen (shared), living room, laundry, storage area, and front and back yards with deck, barbeque, and benches. There are accessible single dorms designed to accommodate the accessibility of wheelchairs.

There are 54 undergraduate, 10 graduate programs, and 2 graduate certificates programs offered at the University of Winnipeg. There are four joint masters programs with the University of Manitoba in History, Public Administration, Religious Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies. There are 15 pre-professional undergraduate programs and 11 active undergraduate Applied & Joint Programs with Red River College.

The University also offers Professional, Applied, and Continuing Education (PACE) programs. These are hybrid programs that blend the best of online and in-class learning experiences. The University offers the English Language Program (ELP). The ELP is a certificate program that enhances the English language proficiency of students. The Collegiate at the University is the only high school within a Canadian University offering studies at the Grade 9, 10, 11, and 12 levels.

University of Winnipeg Application Process

University of Winnipeg admissions for international students are open for fall, winter and spring semester. It is best to apply at least three to four months before the start of term. The University accepts late applications but it does not guarantee a seat in the term applied for.

There are 53 new entrance scholarships for first-time, international students, at the University of Winnipeg aspiring to study in Canada. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have a minimum 80% average, leadership qualities and are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, collegiate, ELP or PACE programs. The HETC will prepare students for teaching responsibilities they may undertake during and/or post-degree. It is intended to be an introduction to the teaching culture of higher education. It will also be useful for undergraduate students enrolled in Honours programs, and others for whom communication and presentation skills are important.

The Postgraduate Professional Skills Certificate provides students with professional and career development skills to complement their academic training. English Language Requirements

Applicants whose previous education was completed outside of Canada and where English may or may not have been the medium of instruction, must submit ONE of the following English language proficiency measures:

Students applying to The University of Winnipeg PACE during the COVID-19 crisis, may use the following online testing options to meet their English language requirements for applications to our 2021 and 2022 programs:

  • Duolingo English Test with a  minimum test score of 120, with at least a Production score of 100*
  • IELTS Indicator with a minimum overall academic band score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 for the writing and reading categories*.
  • TOEFL iBT “Special Home Edition Test”  with a minimum score of 86 with no less than 20 in each component (internet-based)*.
  • IELTS – A minimum overall academic band score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 for the writing and reading categories*.
  • TOEFL (paper based) – A minimum score of 550 with no less than 50 in each component.
  • TOEFL (internet based) – A minimum score of 86 with no less than 19 in each component (internet-based)*.

  • Heartland International English School’s Pathway Program who have successfully completed Advanced 3 (Level 5), with 80%, as meeting the English requirement.
  • International Language Academy of Canada English Pathway Program achieving a minimum score of 3.3.
  • Three years of full-time education in English at secondary (high school) or post-secondary (university or college) levels in Canada or English Exempt Country.
  • At least five credits at the Grade 12 level from a Canadian curriculum, including one credit of 40S English with a minimum average grade of 75%. *
  • Achieved a minimum grade of four (B) on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level English course, or a minimum grade of three (B) on the Advanced Placement English examination (Language Composition; Literature and Composition).
  • Applicants taking the English Language requirement from UWinnipeg ELP must achieve a minimum of “B” in the following courses:
    • (Full-time) Academic Level 5 – Students must complete Academic Level 5 and Introduction to Business

*Admission into the Public Relations, Marketing & Strategic Communication Diploma requires:
