Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses Application:

Phase 2 Nursing Courses ranking eligibility:

Phase 1 courses must be either previously completed or the student must be in the process of completion (last semester of Phase 1) at UTEP. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted if the student is in the process of completing Phase 1 at another institution.

Students are ranked for selection into the Phase 2 Nursing courses based on:

• Competitive Phase 1 Pre-Professional Course GPA ( Average for accepted students: 3.77 )
• Competitive Cumulative GPA ( Minimum of 3.00 required to apply – DO NOT apply if below minimum)
• Passing overall ATI-TEAS score of 62% or higher [pass/fail] ( subject to change)
• Proof of health insurance

Phase 3 Nursing Professional Course ranking eligibility :

Phase 2 Courses must either be previously completed or students must be in the process of completing Phase 2 at UTEP. Students must also pass the TX BoN Criminal Background Check during Phase 2, show proof of health insurance, and submit a complete titer report to the compliance coordinator.

• Phase 2 Nursing Course must be completed at UTEP and are not accepted from other institutions.
• The GPA earned in the Phase 2 Nursing Course is the first criterion used for ranking into the Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses.
• The highest grade earned in each Phase 2 course will be used in the GPA calculation of the Phase 2 Nursing Courses.

Important Ranking Information

• Selection for the Phase 2 Nursing Courses and Phase 3 Professional Courses are based on:
  Phase 2 Nursing Courses: Pre-professional course (PPC) GPA, overall GPA, TEAS
  Phase 3 Professional Nursing Course: Phase 2 GPA, PPC GPA, overall  GPA, TEAS, cleared CBC
  The Pre-professional Nursing Courses include MATH 1320, BIOL 1305-1107, BIOL 2313-2113, CHEM 1407, MICR 2330, HSCI 2302, & PSYC 1301. The Phase 2 Nursing Courses include NURS 2303, NURS 2407, NURS 2402. The highest grades earned in the Pre-professional courses will be calculated for ranking into Phase 2 (must be on your official UTEP transcript at the time of ranking).
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required to submit an application. If your cumulative GPA is below the minimum, please do NOT submit an application because you will NOT be ranked.
• Having a previous Bachelor’s Master’s, and/or Doctoral degree(s) DOES NOT guarantee s seat in either the Phase 2 Nursing Courses/Phase 2 Nursing Courses/Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses and is not considered a ranking factor.
• Meeting the minimum criteria for ranking does not guarantee selection to the Phase 2 Nursing Course. Acceptance to the Phase 2 Nursing Does not automatically guarantee a seat in the Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses.
• Students are responsible for transferring all Phase 1 courses in a timely manner. Transfer creates must be officially posted on your UTEP transcript by the application deadline.
• Please review application windows and deadlines.
• Ranking for the Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses will place during finals week each semester. Check academic on the UTEP Records & Registration website for specific dates.
• NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: if selected, a notice of acceptance will be sent via the student’s UTEP e-mail account with the deadline and registration information. Failure to register by the deadline will result in the forfeiture of the seat. Only students who are accepted may register and students cannot register until receiving acceptance.
• The Texas Board of Nursing (TX BoN) will be conducting a Criminal Background Check (CBC) on every student enrolled in the Phase 2 Nursing Courses (at the student’s expense). Failure to comply and/or pass the CBC will result in not being ranked for the Phase 3 Nursing Professional Courses.
• Students will not be ranked if: the student’s academic record is incomplete (missing Phase 1 courses: University Core, Pre-professional courses; missing Phase 2 Nursing Courses), cumulative GPA is below 3.00, CBC not cleared by the Texas Board of Nursing, ATI-TEAS exam score is below 62%, does not have proof of insurance or titer lab report.
• It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with all relevant information and to be familiar with their own academic record.

Brief History of UTEP

In El Paso, Texas, there is a public research university called the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

UTEP is included in the University of Texas System.  About 80% of UTEP students are Mexican-American.

UTEP is the second-largest university in the US, with a majority Mexican-American student body.

Only after the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. UTEP was established with the signing of SB 183 by the Texas governor on April 16, 1913.

On September 28, 1914, UTEP formally opened and received its first 27 students.

Presently, UTEP is recognized as an R1: Doctoral Universities.

What’s more, UTEP’s School of Engineering is the top source of M.S. and Ph.D.-level Hispanic engineers in the country.

In addition, UTEP serves as the venue for the annual Sun Bowl college football game.

What is UTEP Acceptance Rate?

UTEP has a 100% acceptance rate. Yes, and that’s right, it’s a 100% acceptance rate at UTEP.

To illustrate, in the Fall of 2020, UTEP received over 11,000 applications.

Later on, UTEP announced an overall acceptance rate of 100%.

To point out, this included admissions for both in-state and out-of-state applications.

The University of Texas at El Paso has an acceptance rate of 76%, greater than the national average for all universities.

The national average is only roughly 56.7%.

Many students view UTEP as a ‘safety school’ due to its high acceptance rate.

However, don’t assume that admission is a done deal. Spend enough time on your application to ensure that it is flawless.

UTEP Transfer Acceptance Rate

Transfer acceptance rates into UTEP are not entirely clear.

However, a closely projected estimate is 93%.

Transfer students into UTEP are admitted if they’ve satisfied the admission requirements.

You should have completed at least 12 credits of college-level coursework among the requirements.

Also, it should be completed following your high school studies, and you’d have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

What are the Necessary Requirements for UTEP?

Despite the acceptance rate at UTEP being 100%, there are still some requirements to get in.

UTEP uses the ApplyTexas application, just like other public universities in Texas.

Applications are received all year round at UTEP as well.

Also, there is no application fee for domestic applicants.

Here are UTEP’s admission requirements.

• Complete the application on ApplyTexas (www.applytexas.org)
• Official high school transcript or official GED score report
• At least one of the following college placement test scores
• Official SAT and/or ACT scores
• Texas Success Initiative Assessment scores
• Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credits that demonstrate college readiness placement
• A writing sample (optional)

UTEP SAT / ACT scores

Typically, you are free to submit whichever you wish or even both.

However, the testing agency must send the official test scores directly to UTEP.

Official high school transcript or official GED score report

In this case, the document you submit must indicate the following:

• The high school curriculum completed
• Rank
• Graduation date (expected or actual)

Note, however, that your high school must directly submit the document to UTEP.

If you completed Advanced Placement courses, then you should also submit your official score to be awarded credits.

Similarly, other eligible programs are:

• CLEP (College Level Examination Program)
• International Baccalaureate (IB)
• SAT II Subject Exams
• DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests)

Writing sample (optional)

Firstly, submitting a writing sample isn’t required.

However, you have the option of submitting one to UTEP.

Generally, writing samples may help expedite the admissions process for some students.

Especially those who are unable to submit standardized test scores.

Alternatively, it helps students whose scores don’t adequately reflect their academic potential.

What is UTEP’s Tuition?

So far, we’ve discussed the criteria and how to get into UTEP.

At this time, let’s consider the actual cost of attendance.

The Cost of Attendance (COA) covers the fall and spring semesters (9 months).

This is an estimate and NOT a bill from UTEP.

The COA covers tuition and fees, lodging, and a stipend for books and supplies.

It also covers travel expenses and loan costs.

Tuition costs and fees at UTEP are $8,508 for resident students and $21,164 for non-resident students.

Overall, you’ll pay around $19,558 for resident students combining the other fees noted above.

While non-resident students pay around $32,214.
