The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD or UT Dallas) is a public university with its main campus in Richardson, Texas. It is the largest public university in the Dallas area and the northernmost campus of the University of Texas system.
It was initially founded as a private research arm of Texas Instruments. While the main campus is officially under the city jurisdiction of Richardson, one-third of it is within the borders of Dallas County and it has an on-campus DART train station on the Silver Line (which will be completed in 2022). UT Dallas also operates several locations in downtown Dallas – this includes the Crow Art Museum in the Arts District as well as several buildings in the Medical District next to UT Southwestern: the Center for BrainHealth, The Callier Center, and The new Translational Biomedical Engineering and Sciences building (under construction).
The University’s academic programs include more than 100 undergraduate majors and over 50 graduate degree programs, including a doctorate in law degree (Juris Doctor). In addition to its undergraduate and graduate programs, UT Dallas offers five doctoral degrees through its College of Natural Sciences or through other colleges or schools within its organizational structure.
The young university has been characterized by rapid growth in research output and its competitive undergraduate admissions policies since its inception. Less than 47 years after its founding, the Carnegie Foundation had classified the university as a doctoral research university with “Highest Research Activity”—faster than any other school in Texas. The university is associated with four Nobel Prizes, and has members of the National Academy of Science and National Academy of Engineering on its faculty. Research projects include the areas of Space Science, Bioengineering, Cybersecurity, Nanotechnology, and Behavioral and Brain Sciences.
The University of Texas at Dallas offers more than 140 academic programs across its eight schools and hosts more than 50 research centers and institutes. UTD Tuition Payment
UT Dallas offers two different tuition plans. The variable tuition rate plan is based on a traditional plan that only locks tuition rates in for one academic year at a time. The rates on the variable tuition plan are subject to change each academic year.
The guaranteed tuition plan is a plan that locks tuition rates in for four consecutive years and protects the student against increases during those four years. This plan is designed to aid students and families in the budget and planning of college expenses.
All new incoming students will be automatically placed into the variable tuition rate plan, but will have the option to lock in their tuition rates for four consecutive years with the guaranteed tuition plan. New admitted students for fall 2020 will be able to make their tuition plan choice beginning Thursday, June 25, 2020.
To make your tuition plan choice, please follow these instructions:
- Login to the Galaxy portal and then click on Orion Student Center
- On your “Tasks” tile, select “To Do List” and then click on the “Make One Time Tuition Plan Choice Due 8/6/2020.”
- Please thoroughly read the language explaining the tuition plan choice and either make your tuition plan choice* OR click “Exit” at the top of the page if you are not ready to make the choice. If you click “Exit”, the system will return you to the Orion Student Center. This will keep your Fall 2020 Tuition Plan “To Do List” active, until you make a decision or it expires as of August 6, 2020.
- Once you submit your tuition plan choice, the “To Do List” item and the hold for Tuition Plan Choice will be removed automatically and a confirmation email of your choice will be sent to you via email within 3 business days.
*If you choose the guaranteed tuition plan, the button does not change colors but you will see a message at the bottom of the page that says “declined” and an agreement date. Declined means you are declining the variable plan and choosing the guaranteed tuition plan.
The deadline to make a tuition plan choice is August 6, 2020. No changes can be made to your tuition plan once you make a decision or once the deadline has passed, so please choose carefully.
The following grid is an example of tuition expenses, comparing the variable tuition rate plan and the guaranteed tuition plan for a new incoming undergraduate resident student. The example enrollment of 15 hours per semester.
