MS Admission Requirements

There are many questions that candidates have during the application process. Most of these questions can be answered by visiting:

All students must submit an official online application to the Clemson University Graduate School.  Applicants can view the “Degree Seeking” webpages for information ranging from initial steps in setting up an online application, to requirements for obtaining a visa and establishing residency.

  • MS applications are considered for Fall only.
  • The deadline for international students applying from a non-US university is February 1.
  • The deadline for U.S. students and international students currently in the U.S. is April 1.

In addition to test scores, the applicant must also submit transcripts, letters of reference, and a personal statement as part of the application.  To apply for the MS, a minimum of 2 letters of reference are required.

There are no minimum score requirements, but admitted Master’s students typically have at least the following qualifications:

  • An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3 or above (on a 4.0 scale).  Students with a Master’s degree typically have a GPA above 3.5 in their graduate courses.
  • Scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) that exceed 160 (old score of 700) on quantitative.
  • Scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) that exceed 100 (iBT) or 600 (PBT) for international students.

If the student’s performance on these measures is not consistent with the guidelines, it is important that the reference letters and the statement of purpose provide the graduate committee with additional information as to why the student should still be considered for admission to the IE Graduate Program.

Students must have at least a four-year bachelor’s degree from an institution whose scholastic rating is satisfactory to the University.
