Seattle University School of Law
Introduction
Seattle University School of Law prepares great lawyers who are powerful advocates for justice. Our vibrant, intellectual community and rigorous program of legal education balance tradition and innovation to ensure our students receive an outstanding education and the practical skills to prepare them for a variety of careers in a changing legal profession.
Location
Located in the heart of dynamic Seattle, Washington, the law school is a vital part of the community. The lively Capitol Hill neighborhood surrounding the campus is a vibrant mix of culture, recreation, and entertainment. Consistently ranked one of the most livable cities in the United States, Seattle seamlessly blends rugged wilderness and urban sophistication. Home to Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks, the city provides our students with access to opportunities with major corporations, multinational law firms, and government agencies.
Sullivan Hall is an award-winning law school facility with a sizable law library, modern classrooms, a beautiful moot courtroom, and comfortable study and activity areas.
The law school also recently inaugurated a satellite campus in Anchorage, Alaska, where students from ABA-accredited law schools may spend a summer or the final year of study learning Alaska law and gaining on-the-job experience in the Anchorage community.
Admission and Financial Aid
In admission decisions, the law school places equal emphasis on three factors:
- LSAT performance,
- the undergraduate academic record, and
- personal achievements, especially talents or factors that contribute to our law school community in special and significant ways.
We also admit a limited group of applicants annually through our Access Admission Program, which addresses those cases in which traditional admission criteria are inadequate predictors of success in law school and in the practice of law. Members of historically disadvantaged groups are among those individuals considered for this program (limited to no more than 10 percent of the entering class).
The law schoolโs Scholarship Program is among the most ambitious in the region, awarding over $3 million per year. Its objectives are twofold: to offer to all studentsโregardless of economic or social backgroundโthe advantages of a private legal education, and to recognize and rewardโregardless of financial needโthe achievements and outstanding potential of the most highly qualified students in the applicant pool. All applicants are automatically considered for scholarships.
The School of Law offers a Loan Repayment Assistance Program to support graduates who choose full-time public interest legal careers as licensed attorneys doing law-related, public interest work. It offers two annual full-tuition Scholars for Justice Awards to outstanding students committed to social justice work and the full-tuition Douglas R. Nash Native American Scholarship to an enrolled member of a Native American tribe.
