Established in 1972, the Southern Illinois University School of Law is just one of three public law schools in Illinois, and the only one located in the stateโs southern region.
Currently housed in the Lesar Law Building, named for the schoolโs first dean, it is able to provide lodging for all of its current students, and for one of the lowest tuition rates in the region at just $22,564. for residents. And โ good news โ you’re locked into that price. The school won’t raise tuition once you start your three year J.D. program.
Along with several clinics and publications, the school boasts its Center for Health Law and Policy, formally established in 2004. One of the school’s notable accomplishments: It has produced more than 120 judges in just the past 40 years.
Another highlight: The school was the first Illinois law school to create a pro bono requirement. Students must complete 35 hours of before graduation.
