University of Southampton Overview

The University of Southampton is a research university which was established in 1952 in Southampton, England. It is a founding member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities in Britain 

The University of Southampton comprises four faculties: Faculty of Business, Law, and Art, Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Humanities. The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs under these faculties like law, business, art civil engineering, Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Nursing and Midwifery, Archaeology, English, Film Studies, History, Modern Languages, Music Philosophy and more.

The university has seven campuses. The main campus is located in the Highfield area of Southampton and is supplemented by four other campuses within the city: Avenue Campus housing the School of Humanities, the National Oceanography Centre housing courses in Ocean and Earth Sciences, Southampton General Hospital offering courses in Medicine and Health Sciences, and Boldrewood Campus housing an engineering and maritime technology campus and Lloyd’s Register. Southampton awards a wide range of academic degrees spanning academic degrees for bachelor’s in a variety of degrees and master’s degrees as well as junior doctorates and higher doctorates. The postnominals awarded are the degree abbreviations used commonly among British universities. The university is part of the Engineering Doctorate scheme, for the award of Eng. D. degrees.

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, we typically require three grades or test scores from a possible combination of AP, SAT-S, SAT-R, ACT, Grade 12 Honors Class or Grade 12 College-level class. We can also consider one full year of College or a full Associates Degrees pending review of relevant classes taken.

When completing your UCAS application, please ensure you include all standardized testing, Honors and dual-enrolment classes you have taken, as well as any you are taking or intending to take in your senior year.

The university does not have any admission deadlines for Postgraduate programs. However, some departments may have their own admission deadlines. Applicants are advised to contact their particular department to get the required information.

Visa Process for International Students

International Students wishing to take admission in University of Southampton are required to hold a student visa. Students aged 16 and above wishing to study in the UK require a Tier 4 (general) visa.

To obtain the Tier 4 visa, students require the following documents:

  • Current and previous passport
