This course will survey the application of contract law in various contexts with case law, relevant portions of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Restatements, and treatises. This course will explore the bases of contract law, creation and termination rights, problems in contract formation, contract interpretation theories, and damages.

This course examines the common law and statutory codes of property law which is primarily a matter of state law. It will also touch upon real estate transactions and the trend of integrating contract law principles into property law jurisprudence. The course is intended as a survey of the real property topics covered on the Multi-State Bar Examination (MBE).

Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, 3 credits (2100 minutes) $2,295.00

This course focuses upon both federal and state criminal law in the United States. Most criminal law is contained in statutes. Students will gain an understanding of the entire time-frame of a crime, from commission through prosecution and possible imprisonment. All types of crimes are covered including white collar crime. Cutting-edge criminal law issues in the U.S. are discussed. This course will also examine the procedural rules of criminal cases. It covers provisions of the Bill of Rights that regulate the government’s pursuit and prosecution of criminal defendants. Important issues such as search and seizure and self-incrimination are covered with emphasis on the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

This course will provide a thorough working knowledge of the key concepts of Tort law in the United States. The course will cover issues related to intentional torts and negligence and the defenses that relate to tort claims.

This course is an examination of the rules that regulate the legal profession including The ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, the ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct, the California Rules of Professional Conduct, and the Washington Rules of Professional Conduct. This course will allow students to gain a thorough understanding of the topics covered on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, the California Bar Examination, and the Washington Bar Examination, including lawyer advertising, solicitation of clients, specialization, conflicts of interest, competence, legal malpractice, fees, confidentiality, and obligations to clients, the court, and society. Students will apply applicable ethics rules to identify and resolve ethical problems within the practice of law.

Extended Bar Prep, 3 credits (2100 minutes) $2,295.00

This course is designed to jumpstart your bar exam preparation by developing your substantive knowledge and sharpening your critical bar exam success skills. Specifically, you will receive in-depth review of highly tested topics in Contracts, Evidence, Torts and Real Property. You will then put that knowledge to use working through practice MBE and essay questions. This course will introduce students to the skills of effective legal writing and communication in the United States. The course will cover important topics for all students to understand the United States legal system and legal writing and communication, including the following: sources of law and hierarchy of the authorities; analyzing and using legal authorities; legal research strategies and process; legal reasoning; the United States legal writing paradigm for both objective and persuasive legal writing; plagiarism; writing techniques, oral advocacy and communication; and strategies for taking a Multi-state Performance Test (MPT) exam. This course has been designed specifically in response to the Washington Bar statement that the course meets the following specifications: a minimum of 1400 minutes in legal analysis and reasoning, legal research, problem solving, and oral and written communication.

At the end of this course, students will know the fundamental principles and ethical constraints in this area.
