Algoma University Programs
Algoma University offers more than 30 academic programs. The School of Business and Economics, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Life Sciences and the Environment and School of Social Work provides a wide variety of courses. The university mostly specializes in liberal arts, sciences, management and professional degree programs.
Graduate certificate programs offered in the university are for students who have completed their degree or diploma and want to extend their knowledge with an additional course. Algoma University offers one or two year graduate certificate courses. There are also undergraduate certificates and interdisciplinary courses.

Algoma University Campus and Accommodation
Currently, a research centre for social, cultural and economic innovation is being built on the Brampton campus. The Timmins Campus is known for offering two programs, Bachelor of Social Work and BA in Community Development. The Northern College is an important part of the Timmins Campus and there is also a fitness centre attached to it.
The Sault Saint Marie consists of the Essar Convergence Centre promoting research and innovation. The George Leach Centre is the athletics complex of the campus. Speakeasy is a pub and entertainment hub, the Wishart library and a residential school centre.
There are plenty of student involvement on campus including Student Union, Student Clubs and Student Volunteer programs. The university offers both- varsity and intramural sports. Varsity athletics select candidates for competing at the Ontario University Athletics and Canadian Interuniversity Sports. Students, not interested in varsity can maintain their fitness by taking part in intramural sports.

Algoma University Accommodations
Algoma University offers several on-campus housing at Algoma Dormitory, Spirit Village Dormitory and Spirit Village Dormitory. All the housing centres offer a single room where one student will be accommodated, ensuring complete privacy. All of them are located at accessible spots.
The Algoma Dormitory can house 96 students in individual rooms and provides a safe, secure and comfortable environment. There is a fully furnished bedroom, bathroom shared with one other student, and they need to subscribe to a meal plan.
The Spirit Village Dormitory can house 45 students. Students are allowed to make their own meals in a shared kitchen. This particular dormitory is welcoming to international students since a lot of them live here engaging in a culturally diverse community.

International students who are seeking admission to Algoma University for studying their preferred course should submit all the required documents, transcripts, english proficiency test scores, financial proof, additional requirements, medical records and health insurance for one entire academic term. The admission requirements for both undergraduate and graduate students are compiled below:
- Completed online application along with submission of application fee.
- Official academic transcripts from all schools/colleges/universities attended with their english translations.
- Secondary school certificate and higher secondary school certificate with their grading system properly explained.
- Diplomas/degrees earned from former institutions.
- English proficiency test result is required. TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Duolingo etc are accepted.
- If applicable, gaps in education must be explained with a resume/letter of employment/academic history/self-written letter of explanation.
- A high school percentage higher than 70% is highly recommended.
- Standardized test scores can be submitted if students want to, but not mandatory. Generally an SAT score above 1,100 or an ACT score of 21 is recommended.
- Financial documentation must be provided showing proof of funds. The documents can be in the form of a bank statement or an affidavit from a sponsor funding the student’s education.
- Scholarship or sponsorship letters (if applicable).
- Medical records explaining the health of the student is required. Mention of any diseases or conditions should be included, if applicable.
- A health insurance which costs 212 CAD per term.

Algoma University English Proficiency Requirements
International students are required to satisfy the English proficiency requirement by taking an English proficiency test. To be considered for admission at Algoma University, a student must submit any of the following test scores. The minimum scores are also mentioned below:

Work study option- International students are not permitted to work on campus but they can work off campus under a number of regulations. They must have a study permit and maintain strong academic standing as per the university’s rules. Students are allowed to work upto 20 hours a week during study sessions and upto 40 hours a week during vacations. The co-operative program allows students to pursue a course and gain employability in their field while studying. They should maintain a 70% average and must be enrolled full time.
