Interested in learning Biostatistics? Would you like to have a basic understanding of the subject? Would you like to be able to quickly identify statistics errors? How about getting hands-on experience with a statistical software package?
Biostatistics is a branch of statistics that deals with the collection, analysis and interpretation of statistical data in the medical and health sciences. Biostatistics professionals are employed by pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, hospitals and other medical facilities.
The course involves statistical analysis of data from biological experiments to find out if there are significant differences between groups. It is also used to measure the effectiveness of treatments and medications by comparing the outcomes of different groups of patients who received various treatments. The demand for biostatisticians is expected to increase as more clinical trials take place globally.

Biostatistics Salary in Kenya
Next, we review biostatistics salary in kenya, masters in biostatistics in kenya, biostatistics jobs in kenya, and Colleges Offering Bachelor of Science (Biostatistics).
A person working as a Biostatistician in Kenya typically earns around 197,000 KES per month. Salaries range from 96,600 KES (lowest) to 307,000 KES (highest).
This is the average monthly salary including housing, transport, and other benefits. Biostatistician salaries vary drastically based on experience, skills, gender, or location. Below you will find a detailed breakdown based on many different criteria.
The median, the maximum, the minimum, and the range
- Salary RangeBiostatistician salaries in Kenya range from 96,600 KES per month (minimum salary) to 307,000 KES per month (maximum salary).
- Median SalaryThe median salary is 201,000 KES per month, which means that half (50%) of people working as Biostatistician(s) are earning less than 201,000 KES while the other half are earning more than 201,000 KES. The median represents the middle salary value. Generally speaking, you would want to be on the right side of the graph with the group earning more than the median salary.
- PercentilesClosely related to the median are two values: the 25th and the 75th percentiles. Reading from the salary distribution diagram, 25% of Biostatistician(s) are earning less than 134,000 KES while 75% of them are earning more than 134,000 KES. Also from the diagram, 75% of Biostatistician(s) are earning less than 259,000 KES while 25% are earning more than 259,000 KES.
What is the difference between the median and the average salary?
Both are indicators. If your salary is higher than both of the average and the median then you are doing very well. If your salary is lower than both, then many people are earning more than you and there is plenty of room for improvement. If your wage is between the average and the median, then things can be a bit complicated.
Biostatistician Salary Comparison by Years of Experience
How does experience and age affect your pay?
The experience level is the most important factor in determining the salary. Naturally the more years of experience the higher your wage. We broke down Biostatistician salaries by experience level and this is what we found.
A Biostatistician with less than two years of experience makes approximately 115,000 KES per month.
While someone with an experience level between two and five years is expected to earn 147,000 KES per month, 29% more than someone with less than two year’s experience.
Moving forward, an experience level between five and ten years lands a salary of 203,000 KES per month, 38% more than someone with two to five years of experience.
Additionally, Biostatistician(s) whose expertise span anywhere between ten and fifteen years get a salary equivalent to 252,000 KES per month, 24% more than someone with five to ten years of experience.
If the experience level is between fifteen and twenty years, then the expected wage is 270,000 KES per month, 7% more than someone with ten to fifteen years of experience.
Lastly, employees with more than twenty years of professional experience get a salary of 287,000 KES per month, 7% more than people with fifteen to twenty years of experience.

Bio-statistics is a discipline that is fundamental to biomedical and agricultural research problems. The course offers advanced statistical techniques and methodology for design of experiments, analysis of data and many other areas of statistics within life sciences. Students of B.Sc. Biostatistics will learn both statistical theory and software programs, making them competent and marketable after graduation. Areas of employment of the graduate from this programme include academia, applied life science research and the private sector. Substantive problems in biomedical and agricultural research circumvented by global challenges of climate change and its correlates have triggered the development of Biostatistical methods. Biostatistics has improved our ability to draw valid inferences from life science data. The role of Biostatistics is thus to advance statistical science and its application primarily to life science problems.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
The program of B.Sc. Biostatistics is intended to provide students with strong grounding in Biostatistical skills in order to fill the demonstrated need and demand for well-trained biostatisticians. This is based on sound training in modern Biostatistical methodology needed to design and analyze biomedical, epidemiological and agricultural research data. The Biostatistics programme includes a base of theoretical work complemented by practical analysis of real data. This prepares technically proficient biostatisticians to assist investigators with the design and analysis of their research data. In addition, it prepares its graduate for real-life data analysis and statistical inference thereby enabling them to draw appropriate conclusions from biomedical and other data types.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE AND REGULATIONSDuration:
The program takes a total of eight semesters with two semesters planned per academic year.
Courses:
There are six required course units in every semester. In the first academic year, each student is required to take three (3) university and one (1) faculty units. In the fourth academic year each student takes one university unit and one additional elective unit. Each student shall be required to undertake practical attachment for a period of not less than 8 weeks at the end of the 8th semester.
Additional units are also available on consultation during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. (these do not count towards the classification of the degree but will appear on the transcripts).
One unit is defined as a series of 35 one lecture hours with a three-hour practical period and a two hour tutorial period being equivalent to a three-hour lecture.
Mode of Study: This is a full time program at JKUAT and is conducted during normal semester time.
Regulations: All JKUAT University Regulations and the regulations of the degree of Bachelor of Science in Biostatistics apply.
