And Boston University isn’t just about computer science—the school offers many other opportunities for students to succeed.
The school’s undergraduate acceptance rate is 40%, which means that if you apply and get accepted, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to attend. The average GPA for those accepted is 3.5, but it’s important to note that there are no minimum GPA requirements or test score cutoffs.

Transfer Applicants from Chinese Universities: In order to be considered for admission and/or transfer credit, we require the following documents to be sent directly from Center for Student Services and Development, Ministry of Education, P. R. China (CSSD).

The Transfer Report can be found here, or on the Common Application. Please ask a dean, registrar, or other college official with access to your disciplinary record at each institution you attended as a degree candidate to complete and submit this form to schforms@bu.edu.
High School Transcript and Proof of Graduation
- You must submit official copies of your secondary school transcript(s) that document high school graduation.
- If you have not graduated from high school, submit results of your Test of General Education Development (GED) or high school equivalency exam.
- If you enrolled in a college degree program before graduating high school (such as Early Admission, Dual Enrollment, or Running Start), indicate your enrollment on your application. If you are currently enrolled in one of these programs and have not yet earned a high school diploma, GED, or HS equivalency, you should apply as a first-year applicant.
Submit Your Course Syllabi
To receive your credit evaluation in a timely manner, please submit syllabi as soon as you apply for admission to BU. Please upload PDFs to the MyBU Portal on the “Application Status” page, and include your name and date of birth at the top of each page. When choosing how to upload your documents, select “Admissions” documents, and then choose “Syllabi” from the document type drop-down menu. College of Fine Arts Applicants

Questrom School of Business Applicants
- Applicants to the Questrom School of Business need to have taken a college-level Calculus course or completed an AP/IB-level Calculus course in high school.
Previous applicants
If you previously applied and were denied admission to BU, you may reapply only after completing one full academic year of coursework elsewhere. If you were offered but did not accept admission to the College of General Studies, you can reapply to the College of General Studies after one semester of coursework elsewhere.
Deferring Admission
Admitted transfer students cannot defer their offer of admission to a future term. If unable to attend, students must reapply for a future term.

An Introduction to Guaranteed Transfer Programs
When you think about the typical college experience, you probably imagine a student staying at one school for all four years. While this is certainly what many students do, it’s far from the only option.
Every year, thousands of students enter the transfer admissions process, hoping to move from one college to another that they believe is a better fit for them. Many more seek to transfer from community colleges, which typically only offer two years of instruction, into four-year colleges, where they can finish their education and receive a bachelor’s degree.
While transferring is a compelling option for many, the transfer admissions process can be just as intimidating as the first-year college admission process, and it’s fair to say that very few students want to go through that a second time. Guaranteed transfer programs, which provide a predetermined and potentially smoother path toward transferring, can help to alleviate this stress.

What is a guaranteed transfer program?
Applying directly to four-year colleges when you’re a senior in high school isn’t the only path to a bachelor’s degree. For some students, attending a community college for a period of time and then applying to their desired four-year college as a transfer student is an approach that makes a lot of sense.
However, the transfer application process poses a number of challenges. Like the traditional application process, it requires a substantial investment in terms of time and effort to gather materials, fill out applications, write essays, and make sure all the requirements are met, and this can be quite stressful.
A few top colleges don’t accept transfer applicants at all, and at those that do, the process is often competitive — occasionally even more so than for first-year applicants. There’s no certainty that you’ll end up being able to attend the college of your choice.
This is where guaranteed transfer programs come in. In general, if you enroll in one of these programs, you’ll spend the first two years of your college career at a community college. (As we’ll discuss below, Cornell University and a few other schools have guaranteed transfer programs that follow a different model, but these schools are considerably in the minority.)
After attending community college, assuming satisfactory academic performance on your part and the completion of all the requirements for your program, you’ll be able to transfer to a particular four-year college to finish your bachelor’s degree.
Guaranteed transfer programs vary in what they ask of you. Generally, you’ll have to maintain a certain GPA, take a certain range of courses, and fulfill other academic requirements in order to transfer. The “guaranteed” nature of the program only applies if you successfully follow that program’s instructions, so the onus is still on you to keep up your performance.
Selected students are guaranteed admission to BU as transfers upon successful completion of their first year of college somewhere else. They aren’t required to reapply, but as usual, they need to fulfill particular academic requirements.
