Our Response to COVID-19:

We know the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on each of our daily lives. We are here to support you as you navigate these unprecedented times. To make the application process as easy as possible, we’ve implemented the following:

  • GMAT/GRE Optional: We are not requiring a GMAT or GRE score for candidates who apply to either the Full-Time MBA or Professional Evening MBA for 2022 admissions cycle.
  • Virtual Interviews: If you are asked to complete an interview, we will send you the details needed to register and conduct this conversation virtually via Zoom.
  • Virtual TOEFL testing: If you still need to take the TOEFL, ETS has introduced a solution for students who have been impacted by the coronavirus to take the TOEFL iBT® test at home until test centers can reopen. Additional information about the TOEFL at home can be found here.
  • Virtual Advising Appointments: If you would like to chat with a member of our team, you can schedule a Virtual Advising Appointment. This meeting will give you a chance to ask your questions about the program and admission process and learn more about the opportunities available at Questrom. Schedule your appointment here.
  • Virtual Events: In response to the concerns around Covid-19, Questrom will no longer be attending or hosting in person prospective student events until further notice. In lieu of this, we will be providing you with many opportunities throughout the fall semester to engage with our community through a series of exciting virtual activities. We encourage you to check out our upcoming virtual events to learn more about our programs and the application process.

Essays

In order to get to know you on a more personal level, applicants to our full-time and part-time MBA programs are required to complete either three short video essays OR one written essay during the application process. Because everyone expresses themselves in different ways, the choice is yours.

VIDEO ESSAYS

If you’re someone who feels they can better express themselves and their reasons for applying to the Questrom School of Business through a video, we encourage you to complete the video essays. Within the “Documents” section of the “Program Materials” portion of the application, you will find your personalized link to the video essay website. Clicking this link will bring you to the Kira Talent website, our partner for the video essay process. When you register, you must use the same email address that you used to create your admission application account.

Upon creating your account with Kira Talent, you can begin your video essays. You’ll need to use an internet-connected computer with a webcam and microphone. We will first ask you a question that all candidates will receive. You’ll have thirty seconds to prepare, and then 60 seconds to record your answer. This will then repeat for two additional random short-answer questions.

You can practice an unlimited number of times with Kira Talent’s provided example questions, but once you start the formal video essay questions, you are only allowed one opportunity. This allows the committee to see your candid responses. The formal process should only take you about five minutes to complete, and can be done on your own time. If you have any questions about your video interview once you’ve registered, please contact support@kiratalent.com.

Preparing for your video essay: We want your recording process to be as easy as possible. As such, we encourage you to dress in business casual attire – no need for a suit. The admission committee will review your responses as part of the application process, and are interested in your presence, personality, and fit with our community. We recommend trying out a few of the sample Kira questions prior to recording your formal video essay responses.

WRITTEN ESSAY

If you’re someone who feels they can better express themselves and their reasons for applying to the Questrom School of Business in writing, we encourage you to complete the written essay. Within the “Documents” section of the “Program Materials” portion of the application, you will scroll down to “Essay” and click “Add Document” to upload your written essay.

Your written essay should be no more than 750 words, and should explain to the admissions committee why you’d like to earn your degree from the Questrom School of Business specifically.  It should also address why you have selected the program you are applying to (Full-Time MBA, Professional Evening MBA, Health Sector MBA, Dual Degree, etc.) – and how that program will help you achieve your post-graduate goals.

OPTIONAL ESSAY

If you have any additional information to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee, you may address it in an optional essay of no more than 250 words. Acceptable topics for the optional essay include gaps in post-college work experience, choice of recommenders, and concerns about academic/test performance. If you plan to retake any admissions tests (GMAT or GRE; TOEFL, IELTS or PTE), please provide the date of your scheduled test here. To upload an optional essay, please scroll to the “Essay” section and click “Add Document.”

GRE AND GMAT CODES/TEST WAIVER ELIGIBILITY

In response to COVID-19, we are not requiring a GMAT or GRE score for candidates who apply to the Full-Time MBA for 2022 entry. However, if you do choose to submit a GMAT/GRE please upload an unofficial copy of your score report with your online application.  To learn more about the optional GMAT/GRE, please visit our main Full-Time MBA Admissions Page  or our FAQ page.*

*The admissions committee may, in rare cases, still ask you to submit a GMAT or GRE score to aid in evaluating your candidacy for the Full-time MBA  program. In the event we need this additional information, we will inform you once your application has been initially reviewed.

OPTIONAL GMAT OR GRE

The Online MBA is a rigorous program that requires quantitative aptitude. The admissions committee will look for evidence of this in your application via previous coursework. The GMAT or GRE is not required for admission to the Online MBA.

RESUME

You should submit a current resume that outlines all work experience, with months and years of employment. Your resume should show all employment history from the completion of your undergraduate degree, including any jobs that may not be considered relevant to your present career. We will calculate all full-time, post-graduate work experience from your undergraduate degree confer date and remove any gaps of unemployment. It’s important that we have an accurate sense of your months/years of employment for reporting purposes.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

We require one letter of recommendation for the Online MBA. Within the application (program materials, recommender section) you will enter your recommender information. Once entered into the system, the person(s) listed will receive detailed instructions on how to submit their letter. They can either use the Common Letter of Recommendation or upload a standard letter they have written. We prefer you use someone who knows you in a professional capacity.

Please note, your letter of recommendation must come via the online system or directly from the recommender themselves to OMBAappdocs@bu.edu. We cannot accept letters of recommendation directly from applicants.

Please note: due to the evolving circumstances surrounding COVID-19, our ability to process mailed application materials may be significantly delayed. Because of this, please plan to also send electronic copies of all necessary documents to ombaappdocs@bu.edu.
