We accept a wide range of international qualifications for study on our undergraduate courses.
In the UK, we primarily use the UCAS Tariff points (pdf 43.3kb) to display the entry requirements for specific courses.

Access courses – If you have completed an appropriate access course, we’ll consider it as long as it relates to your chosen programme of study at undergraduate level.
BU International College Foundation Certificate programme – These programmes are designed to help you succeed on your chosen course at BU.

European Baccalaureate
High School leaving examinations – We will consider any High School leaving examinations that are considered to be the equivalent to A-level examinations in the UK.
International Baccalaureate – We are happy to consider students studying the International Diploma as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB). On each course page the minimum IB points required, as well as any subject-specific requirements, will be displayed. Please note that you will need to achieve the IB scores stated in your offer, as we don’t accept equivalent UCAS Tariff points for these qualifications.
Irish Leaving Certificate – Usually you’ll need to achieve seven passes, including four at the higher level with grade C or above.

Bournemouth University courses are designed with direct input from employers, with many courses accredited by the biggest names in industry. More than 18,000 students are enrolled on courses across undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, with over 2,000 international students representing some 100 countries. Bournemouth is a major tourism destination, a cosmopolitan town with seven miles of sandy beaches.
Entry Requirements
The university welcomes applications from students with a wide range of qualifications.
Places are typically offered based on the applicant’s 3 main graded qualifications, including any required subjects. Course Flexibility
Some part-time options are available and a number of short courses can be combined to create postgraduate qualifications in a range of subjects.
Every student is given the opportunity of a work placement, with more students completing work placements than any other university in Great Britain.
There are opportunities for students to study, work or take part in extra-curricular activities around the world, many of which are funded.
Student Services and Facilities
Facilities include specialist laboratories, a unique crime scene training centre and the UK’s first university based Sony HD TV studio.
Libraries include electronic, print and multimedia resources, with staff on hand for support. Students can also access library services and many of the university’s e-collections – which includes reading list materials – from their mobile devices by downloading the iBU app.
Open Access Computing Centres are available 24/7.
Excellent sport facilities are found at SportBU.
Planned future investment includes a new building for the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences, and industry-standard healthcare simulation and practice suites.
Disability Services
The Additional Learning Support Team (ALS) is available to support students who may have specific learning differences, physical/sensory impairments, medical conditions or mental health issues.
As well as 1-to-1 learning support, the service can advise on diagnoses, and funding assistance from Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA).
Students’ Union
The Students’ Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU) is the voice for students, providing confidential advice and representation on many issues to over 3000 student members. Last year over 347 volunteering opportunities were offered by SUBU; students also get involved as course reps, community wardens and student officers, while over 175 students work for SUBU throughout the year.
SUBU is the central hub for over 100 clubs and societies, volunteering opportunities and the student-run media outlet, Nerve* (magazine, TV and radio). SUBU manages shops and bars on both campuses including the student night club, the Old Fire Station.
SUBU won the NUS award for Education, and was a finalist for SU of the year. The Freshers’ Fair was voted best in the country and the Summer Ball is one of the largest in the UK with 7,500 people attending.
Availability of Part-Time Work
Leisure and tourism are the leading industries in Bournemouth, reflected by the abundance of part-time jobs available year round.
Students have access to MyCareerHub from the Careers and Employability Service to search for part-time work, and employment agencies also assist in finding office-based work with hours to suit.
The Students’ Union hires many students and each year Bournemouth University employs over 200 Student Ambassadors to represent the university.
Careers Guidance
The university’s Careers and Employability Service offers support and guidance to all current students as well as graduates (up to 3 years from graduation).
All undergraduate courses offer a work placement, with most offering a 30-week placement.
A number of funded opportunities to work and study abroad are available, alongside a range of extra-curricular activities such as volunteering, summer schools and conferences.
The Global Talent Programme offers a way to demonstrate the breadth of student’s extra-curricular activities as they work to achieve badges towards the Global Talent Award.

History
The university’s origins can be traced to the early 1900s with the foundation of the former Bournemouth Municipal College, which in the 1970s became the Dorset Institute of Higher Education.
In the 1990s this became first Bournemouth Polytechnic and in 1992, Bournemouth University, with campuses in Poole and Bournemouth.
