The QS World University Ranking is one of the three main university rankings that are announced every autumn. So far, the Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai ranking, has been announced. The Times Higher Education is out later in the autumn.
In the 2015 QS ranking, UiB was placed at number 181, which means that the 2016 is a rise of four places.
The QS World University Ranking rates three American universities as the world’s top three higher education and research insitutions: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Harvard University. The top European universities are the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, ranked respectively as number 4 and 6.
Among Norwegian institutions on the list, the University of Oslo is number 113, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology is 259, and the University of Tromsø, The Arctic University of Norway is 377.
