Grade Requirements
- All required and recommended courses must be taken for a grade at a regionally accredited college or university.
- Applicants must earn a grade of at least 2.0 in each course.
- It is the student’s responsibility to provide official grades in a decimal point form. Contact the learning institution attended for information regarding grade conversion. Applications submitted without decimal grades cannot be processed. (See chart below.)
- Math and science required and recommended courses must have been completed within 10 years prior to the application deadline.
- Courses may be repeated no more than once. The highest grade in each repeated course will be selected for admission purposes. If any course is repeated more than once, the highest grade in the first two course attempts will count. Classes with grades that have been forgiven, according to each college’s Grade Forgiveness policy, will not count as an attempt. A maximum of one grade of “W” or its equivalent that appears on your transcript for each required and recommended course will not be counted as an attempted course.

Selection Criteria
- A maximum of 24 students are selected each year for the two-year (six-quarter) program.
- Applicants to the Nursing Program are selected after a thorough review of all completed applications, including official transcripts, NAC documentation, and Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores.
- All courses completed through the spring quarter of the Nursing program application year will be reviewed.
- Only students who have completed all aspects of the application process and who meet all general requirements will be considered. Students are urged to contact the Admissions office to discuss substitutions if applicable.
Acceptance into the Nursing Program
A maximum of 24 students are selected each year for the two-year (six-quarter) program. Students seeking mid-program transfer or readmission are considered for admission only on a space available basis (Advanced Placement).
Notification of Admission
Students accepted into the Nursing program are notified by mail before the end of July. Immediately contact the Centralia College Nursing Program at 360-623-8922 if your decision to accept placement in the nursing program changes.
Notification of Alternate Status
A list of 10 alternate candidates in ranked order will be assembled. If spaces become available, only students on the alternate list are offered admission for the current year’s program. Alternate candidates who do not receive an offer of admission by the 10th class day of fall quarter will be denied admission. A new Nursing Program application must be submitted to be reconsidered for future admission.
Notification of Denial
Students who have not met all application requirements or whose application did not rank high enough for admission or alternate status will be denied admission to the Nursing Program. Students are notified by mail before the end of July. A new Nursing Program application must be submitted to be reconsidered for future admission.
Appeal of Selection
If you wish to appeal your Nursing Program admission decision, you have 10 calendar days from the date of your decision letter to do so. The appeal is a meeting with the Director of Enrollment Services. If you wish to appeal the decision of the Director of Enrollment Services, you have five calendar days after the decision to appeal. Write a formal letter of appeal to the Vice-President of Student Services. The Vice-President will send you a written response within 15 calendar days after receiving the appeal letter. The decision of the Vice-President of Student Services is final.
Mandatory Orientation
Attendance is required for orientation, usually occurring within the first week of August.

Associate of Science in Nursing Program
Major: Nursing
The associate of science degree in nursing is designed for students who seek careers as registered nurses. The program is designed to prepare graduates for the National Council Licensing Exam in Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). The program articulates with many baccalaureate nursing programs for graduates desiring further nursing education. There are admission requirements that must be completed before a student can be accepted to the associate degree nursing program. Satisfactory completion of admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

Admissions Requirements
- Information Session
- Applicants seeking admission to the Nursing Program are required to attend an information session six (6) months prior to the semester they seek admission.

- English: 60
- Students may take the TEAS exam a total of two times within a 12-month period. Test scores are valid for three years. The TEAS can be taken at any testing center.

Prerequisite Courses
- English Composition I: completion with a grade of B-minus or better.
- Math: completion of College Algebra, Pre-calculus or Statistics with a grade of B- minus or better in within the past five (5) years.

- Anatomy & Physiology I: completion with a grade of B- minus or better within the past three (3) years.
- General Biology: completion with a grade of C+ or better within the past five (5) years.
- ACS 102 – College Experience: Only required for students with fewer than six (6) college credits.
Post-Acceptance Requirements
All Nursing students are required to attend a New Student Orientation at Roxbury Community College. Students who fail to complete the orientation or attend in its entirety, will be withdrawn from the program.
Immunizations
The RCC Nursing Program follows the immunization requirements set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Immunizations are mandatory for Nursing students and documentation must be entered by the student into the CastleBranch system, a secure online platform that stores student records, streamlining the paperwork process. Students are responsible to ensure their own status regarding compliance in CastleBranch. The following immunizations are mandatory:
- MMR – this requirement is only satisfied by submitting either a. A Measles IgG and Rubella IgG titer showing immunity OR b. Two MMR vaccinations must be documented.
- Varicella – this requirement is only satisfied by submitting either a. A Varicella titer showing immunity OR b. Two Varicella vaccinations must be documented NOTE: Having had Chicken Pox DOES NOT satisfy requirement; Varicella Titer is required.
- Hepatitis B a. Three (3) vaccinations should be documented for Hepatitis B AND b. Serologic testing for Hepatitis B Surface Antibody. This means you must have your blood drawn to show if you are immune to Hepatitis B vaccine. A copy of your lab result must be attached.
- Tetanus Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) (one dose is required.)
- Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) a. Affirmation of diphtheria/tetanus booster must be documented. This booster is only valid for 10 years.
- Tuberculosis Screening a. All students are required to get PPD plants until completion of the program. b. There is a two-step requirement for PPD/Tuberculosis Screening upon admission to the Nursing program. c. All students are required to have PPD plants within 12 weeks of the start of each semester Fall Semester between the dates of June 15th – July 15th Spring Semester between the dates of November 1st and November 24th d. With a history of a positive result, a copy of chest x-ray results, date of TB med counseling or treatment, and symptom screen must be attached. A clear chest x-ray is valid for 10 years. Students must obtain a TB symptom screening 12 weeks prior to the start of each semester.
- Flu Shot: Annual flu shots are required and due by October 1st.
- Meningitis: all students under 21 years of age must have a meningitis immunization.
Students who fail to supply proof of their immunizations and other documents indicating their medical clearance will be withdrawn from the program. This is a requirement that is necessary to start the Nursing Program and to progress through the program each semester.
Background Checks
All Nursing Program students must submit to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sexual Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks in accordance with Massachusetts state regulations.
Basic Life Support/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
All Nursing Program students must show proof of current CPR certification.
Physical Exam
Physical exams are required prior to the start of the program. The student’s health care provider must certify that they are mentally and physically able to perform the role of the student nurse according to the Nursing Program technical requirements.
Physical Requirements
Students enrolled in the Nursing Program at Roxbury Community College are required to be in good physical and mental/emotional health. Physical health is defined as being able to perform fine and gross motor skills, being able to perform normal weight bearing activities, and free of a communicable disease. Emotional health is defined as reacting appropriately to stressful situations, understanding one’s own ability to cope with stressful situations, and behaving appropriately within the current environment. The Nursing Program has reasonable expectations of students to perform common nursing functions.
Students must be able to meet the requirements to apply for admission and for continuation in the Nursing Program. A physical examination by a healthcare provider and requested immunizations are required for program participation. Applicants should present the program’s Technical Standards to their healthcare provider for review at the time of the physical examination. The physician must sign certifying that the student meets the listed requirements.
In the case of a qualified individual with a documented disability, appropriate and reasonable accommodations will be made unless to do so would fundamentally alter the essential training elements, cause undue hardship, or produce a direct threat to the safety of the patient or student.

Tuition Payment Options

Columbia University School Nursing is committed to preparing future nurses by offering an excellent education, beginning with prerequisite courses. The Online Prerequisites for Entry to Nursing (OPEN) program allows non-nurses to take courses needed to apply to nursing school or other health professions schools that require science prerequisites.
All courses are taught by Columbia University faculty and are undergraduate-level. Course offerings are available three times per year with each session lasting ten weeks. The modules are set up independently and allow registration for courses to be taken concurrently. Upon completion, all grades are posted on an official transcript from Columbia University. The courses are fully accredited and transferable.

Prerequisites
Transcripts of prerequisite coursework must be received prior to the deadline of June 1. Unofficial transcripts may be used with your application. Official transcripts will be required only from the finalists who are offered conditional program acceptance.
- BIOL& 241 Human A & P 1 (“B+” or better)
- BIOL& 242 Human A & P 2 (“B+” or better)
- BIOL& 260 Microbiology (“B” or better)
- CHEM& 121 Intro to Chemistry (“B” or better)
- ENGL& 101 or 102: English Composition (“B” or better)
- MATH& 146 Intro to Statistics (“B” or better)
- PSYC& 200 Lifespan Psychology (“B” or better)
An additional 30 credits of general education courses are also required for graduation from the nursing program. Though not required for admission to the program, it is recommended that you take these courses prior to entry into the program. These include:
- BIOL& 160 or BIOL& 211 Biology (5 credits)
- PSYC& 100 General Psychology (5 credits)
- NUTR& 101 Nutrition (5 credits)
- Communications elective from DTA list (5 credits)
- Humanities electives from DTA list (10 credits) – Five (5) of those credits are embedded into the nursing program once accepted
Notes on Prerequisites and General Education:
- Based on placement testing, students may need to complete basic skills and/or pre-college English and math in order to complete prerequisites.
- Anatomy and physiology and microbiology courses must have been completed within 7 years of the application deadline.
- Although general education courses may be taken after admission to the Nursing Program, students are encouraged to complete as many of these courses as possible prior to entering the Nursing Program. Summer quarters are also good times to take general education courses.
- Communications and humanities courses may be chosen from the course list for direct transfer degrees.
Take the TEAS Test
The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is a required component of your application. The TEAS assesses four areas; reading, mathematics, science and English of which minimum scores are required (see below). You may retake the TEAS exam if needed, but there must be at least thirty (30) days between attempts. For multiple attempts, the highest scores from each section will be taken for the application. The TEAS test scores must all be within three (3) years from March 1st of the application year.

TEAS test scores will need to be scanned and submitted during the application process. Failure to include TEAS test score will result in denial of application.
Minimum required scores on each TEAS test:
- Reading: 58.7%
- Mathematics: 58.7%
- Science: 58.7%
- English: 58.7%
In order to be accepted into the Centralia College Nursing Program, students must have a high school diploma or GED. In addition, they must have completed at least one year of college coursework before being admitted to the program.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in nursing, consider attending Centralia College and earning your associate degree in nursing. The program is designed for students who want to pursue a career as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN). The curriculum covers topics such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, pharmacology, and psychology. You will also learn about assessment techniques, patient education, and medical law as it relates to nursing practice.
The nursing program at Centralia College is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This accreditation assures students that their education meets national standards for quality education. Students who complete this program will be able to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses (RN), which qualifies them to work as RNs or LPNs in hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the country.
