There are a number of alumni who have achieved great things in the field of law.

For instance, there’s Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III, who graduated from Penn Law in 1969 and went on to become a federal judge for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to his legal career, Judge Wilkinson also served as a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law for more than 20 years.

Another famous Penn Law graduate is James C. Grendell, who earned his degree in 1981. After graduating from law school, Mr. Grendell worked as an associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP until 1985 when he left to become an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia County where he served until 1991. He then spent two years at Pepper Hamilton LLP before being appointed district attorney for Delaware County by Governor Ed Rendell in 1993 where he served until 2011 when he resigned due to health reasons (he passed away later that year). In addition to being elected district attorney twice during his tenure (1997 and 2009), Mr. Grendell also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1998 against former Representative Pat Toomey (who would go on to be elected Senator).
