At Drake, we offer financial aid that is designed to reward your academic achievement and also to help meet your family’s level of financial need. You may find that you qualify for both merit-based and financial need-based awards. We make every effort to provide the most complete financial aid package to you in your first award notice.
Please visit our Office of Student Financial Planning for all your general scholarship inquiries. The Office of Student Financial Planning also provides a summary of tuition and fees for all Drake programs.
Pharmacy Program Scholarships
The following scholarships are available to incoming P1 students:

Byrl C. Benton Memorial Scholarships | In honor of Byrl Benton, Dean of the College from 1949-1977. Awarded to an incoming P1 student with a prior Bachelor of Science degree. |
Pursuit Scholarships | Awarded to a student who has earned a prior Bachelor of Science degree and provides diversity to the College. |
Reisetter Scholarships | Established by alumnus Brian Reisetter. Awarded to a student who enhances the diversity goals of the College. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. |
Verdun Scholarships | Established by alumnus Patrick Verdun and spouse Annette Verdun. Awarded to a student who is from a rural community or enhances the diversity goals of the College. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. |
Mandel Family Scholarships | Established by alumnus Craig Mandel and spouse Ellen Mandel. Awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA who increases the diversity goals of the College or is involved in campus or community service activities. |
Cline Scholarships | Established by the late Morgan E. Cline, these scholarships are awarded to students who are entering the PharmD program. The award is renewable for up to 4 years. |
Each year, CPHS has many scholarships available for current students who will be entering their P3 and P4 academic years. Applications become available December 1 and are due on February 1. Scholarships are awarded each year at the Annual Pharmacy and Health Sciences Day.

Kenneth & Helen Hartig Memorial Scholarship | Established by Dick Hartig in honor of his parents, Kenneth & Helen Hartig. Presented to a student from Iowa with strong character befitting of a pharmacy professional. |
Iowa Pharmacy Foundation Scholarships | Presented to students involved professionally in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. |
Iowa Pharmacy Foundation – Eggleston/Granberg Golf Outing Scholarship | Presented to students involved professionally in the College; preference is given to students who participated in the annual golf outing event. |
James Wetzeler Scholarship | In honor of James Wetzeler, previous preceptor of Drake students, For a student interested in independent community pharmacy. |
John & Melissa Corrigan Scholarship Award | Established by John & Melissa Corrigan to honor Melissa’s contributions to the profession of pharmacy through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Preference is given to a student who has earned PTCB certification or is working as a pharmacy technician. |
National Association of Chain Drug Stores Scholarships | Awarded to outstanding students with an interest in community pharmacy practice. |
Medicap GRX Scholarships | Established by alumni Mike Ohnemus and Greg Johannsen for students with an interest in community pharmacy and who are from Polk, Madison, Dallas, Story, Marion, or Warren counties. |
OSCO Scholarships | Awarded to students in good academic standing and interest in community pharmacy. |
PharmD Scholarships | Presented to a P3 student with financial need. |
Plough Foundation Scholarships | Students who meet criteria established may be awarded scholarships from the Plough Pharmacy Student Scholarship Fund. Criteria for selection include scholarship, financial need and leadership. Recipients of the awards are designated as Plough Scholars. |
Richard & Brenda Hartig Scholarship | Established by alumnus and President of Hartig Drug, Richard Hartig. Preference is given to those students residing near Hartig store locations. |
ShopKo Scholarship | Presented to a student with high scholastic achievement, outstanding leadership abilities, and a desire to practice in the community setting. |
James G. Synder Scholarship | Presented to a student who enhances the diversity goals of CPHS. |
Walgreen Co. Scholarship | Scholarships are awarded to students who are interns employed by Walgreens or have an interest in community practice. Special awards are presented to students who have engaged in research that has benefited community pharmacy practice. |
Walgreen Co. Diversity Scholarship | Presented to a student who actively promotes pharmacy, exhibits professionalism, and promotes diversity. |
Wal-Mart Pharmacy Scholarship | Presented to students interested in community pharmacy practice who demonstrate high academic standing and strength in leadership. |
Amanda L. Wilkin Pharmacy Scholarship | Presented to students who are pursuing a degree in addition to the PharmD degree from Drake university, in the memory of Amanda Wilkin (posthumous Class of 2019). |

Coulee Region Pharmacy Association Scholarship | This award is open to anyone attending an accredited school of pharmacy during the 2016-2017 academic year, but preference will be given to local residents or students who are related to one of our members. The Coulee Region Pharmacy Association is a local independent group from the La Crosse, WI area that is made up of pharmacists and technicians and serves as a forum to address local health care issues and support the community. Our members practice in a variety of setings from chain and independent pharmacies to hospital and managed care. Express Scripts Scholars Program(Dual Degree) | Scholarship Opportunity for Dual Degree Students Applications are now being accepted for the Express Scripts Scholars Program. The program will provide four (4) $10,000 scholarships each year to enrolled dual degree students. The awarded students are given $2,500 per semester for four consecutive semesters, totaling $10,000 over two years. For application instructions, please visit the AACP Web site. Lou Carta Scholarship | The Southwest Iowa Pharmacists Association, based in Council Bluffs, makes this scholarship available each year. The scholarship is named after Carta, now deceased, who was an area pharmacist and longtime board member of the association. $1000 will be awarded as one individual scholarship applicable to the fall 2018 term. Those eligible for the scholarship are students currently enrolled in their second year or above in a school of pharmacy who have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Each applicant’s hometown must be within approximately 100 miles of the Council Bluffs/Omaha metropolitan area. Pharmacists Mutual Community Pharmacy Scholarship Program | To be eligible, pharmacy students must be a P2 or P3 and plan to practice in: • an independent or small chain community pharmacy, or • an underserved geographic or cultural community, preferably in an independent or small chain community pharmacy. Interested students will submit an electronic application, college transcript, letter of recommendation from a faculty member or advisor, and an essay describing their interest in practicing in an independent or small chain community setting or in an underserved community. Fink Family Scholarship | The American Society for Pharmacy Law (“ASPL”) is pleased to announce the Fink Family Scholarship established by Joseph L. Fink III and his family. The purpose of the Scholarship is to support a pharmacist who: (1) is attending law school; (2) demonstrates academic, professional, or service-related achievement; and (3) is most likely to use a law degree to further such achievement and to contribute to the benefit of society. The $5,000 scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award and will be administered by ASPL. The recipient will also receive a one-year complimentary student membership in ASPL. | May |
