What States Have Educational Diagnosticians
The Master’s in Special Education with a concentration in Educational Diagnostician program prepares professional educators to practice as assessment personnel in education.
Earning a M.A. in Special Education – Educational Diagnostician will set you on the course to work as a Diagnostician at the district level. Candidates who complete the Educational Diagnostician specialization receive in-depth training on diagnosing and assessing the learning needs of students through various standardized and curriculum-based assessments and providing consultation on preventative and intervention strategies in the school setting.
Graduate Special Education Program Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- GPA of 3.0 or better in the last 60 credit hours of coursework leading to the baccalaureate degree
- Essay submitted and reviewed: “Why do you want to pursue a master’s degree in special education?”
Conditional Admission
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university – GPA below 3.0 – 2.5 in the last 60 credit hours of coursework leading to the baccalaureate degree
- Essay submitted and reviewed: “Why do you want to pursue a master’s degree in special education?
- OTHER EVIDENCE: At least one of the following:
- Minimum GRE score of 282 (verbal and quantitative combined);
- Statement related to the circumstances surrounding your lower GPA and why you believe you are ready for graduate studies (at least one page in length) AND two professional letters of recommendation, both should be from school administrators who have supervised your work in the classroom. If you can only secure one from such a person, the second must be a professional letter from someone who can speak to your capacity to be a special education teacher.
M.A. in Special Education – Educational Diagnostician Degree Requirements
- Students must complete 33 hours of core coursework.
- Students will complete nine semester credit hours of educational diagnostician specific coursework on campus.
- Students are required to complete three hours of educational diagnostician practicum.
REQUIREMENTS TO BE ISSUED THE DIAGNOSTICIAN CERTIFICATE
The Certification Office will need the following items completed prior to being ADMITTED to the Diagnostician Certificate.
1. Graduate School application (must apply to the Graduate School)
2. Professional Certification Program application
3. Certification non-refundable fee – $50 (submit payment to MarketPlace)
4. TEA Assessment non-refundable fee – $35 (submit payment to MarketPlace)
5. Transcripts (all transcripts)
6. Teacher Certificate
7. District Service Record verifying 3 creditable years teaching experience (will accept less than 3 years of admission purposes)
8. Letter of recommendation from a district administrator
9. Successful interview process completed and signed “letter of invitation” submitted.
The Certification Office will need the following items completed prior to FILING with the Texas Education Agency for the Diagnostician Certificate.1. Complete all admission requirements.
2. District Service Record verifying three creditable years teaching experience at completion of the diagnostician program.
3. Hold a master’s degree at completion of the diagnostician program
4. Successfully complete the TExES diagnostician exam
5. Successfully complete the Texas A&M–Commerce Educational diagnostician preparation program (to be determined by Texas A&M–Commerce diagnostician program)
