The admissions process for theology scholarships in the UK varies depending on the university or college in question. Students will need to submit an application form along with supporting documents such as academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement outlining their interest in theology and why they are suitable for the scholarship. Some scholarships may also require students to attend an interview or submit additional materials, so it is important to carefully follow the instructions provided by the scholarship provider.

Faith-based foundations and memorial funds provide college aid that can be applied to a wide variety of degree pursuits.  Theology fellowships and other aid funded by churches should not be overlooked as valuable financial aid resources.  Use your faith, volunteerism and other personal qualities to open educational doors within religious disciplines.

The difference between theology and religious studies is that theology focuses more closely on the study of God and faith rather than in the critical investigation of religions. Theology is often more faith-based, while religious studies are more analytical.

Religious studies, also known as the study of religion or religiology, is an academic field devoted to research into religious beliefs, behaviors, and institutions. It describes, compares, interprets, and explains religion, emphasizing systematic, historically based, and cross-cultural perspectives.

While theology attempts to understand the nature of transcendent or supernatural forces (such as deities), religious studies tries to study religious behavior and belief from outside any particular viewpoint. Religious studies draws upon multiple discipline and their methodologies including anthropology, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and history or religion.

Theology/Theological Studies

Theology is the study of religion. It examines the human experience of faith, and how different people and cultures express it. Theologians examine the many different religions of the world and their impact on society.

The study of theology is part philosophy, part history, part anthropology, and also something entirely its own. Studying theology means taking on challenging questions about the meaning of religion. It also requires being able to compare the different religions in a knowledgeable, balanced way.

Theology is an ancient intellectual discipline, with continuing and momentous social significance around the world today. Students gain an understanding of the intellectual underpinning of religious traditions, and of the social and cultural contexts for religious belief and practice. In order to engage fully with the questions raised by the critical study of Theology and Religion, you will have to become something of a historian and a philosopher, a textual and literary critic, and a linguist. The range of disciplines that may be encountered on the course makes study vibrant and challenging and means that the graduates are versatile and equipped with a variety of skills.
