About the Nurse Science Program

The Nurse Science Department offers a program of study leading to an associate in applied science degree. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse licensure (NCLEX-RN). The course of study includes classroom and laboratory instruction on campus, as well as supervised clinical experience at affiliating health agencies.

OSU-OKC Nurse Science Department offers the following options:

  • Traditional pathway:  The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) prepares students to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).  This option is for those who wish to earn their first associate degree, as well as those who wish to change careers.
  • Transition pathway:  The LPN to RN and Paramedic to RN pathways prepare licensed practical nurses and paramedics to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Challenge route-for LPNs who did not graduate from an ACEN accredited program
  • Direct articulation route-for LPNs who graduated from an ACEN accredited program

Oklahoma State University Nursing Program Cost – College Learners

LPN to RN applications are accepted until March 1 for the following Fall Semester start or September 1 for the following Spring Semester start. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Students are selected for admission based on qualifications and space availability. Admission to the nursing program is competitive. Applicants may be invited for an interview as part of the selection process. Applicants will be notified of acceptance status after the review process in April for the following fall semester and in September for the following spring semester.

State Licensure Information

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) meets the state education requirements for a registered nursing (RN) license in the states of Oklahoma, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas ,and Washington. NOC has not determined if the ADN program at NOC meets the state education requirements in any other state, any U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia. Contact the state regulatory agency for nursing in any other state for which this information is needed.

Nursing Program Costs

Tuition for nursing students is the same as for all other OSU-Oklahoma City students. Additional expenses include:

  • nursing student uniforms, patches, nursing pin

A financial aid officer is available to assist students in applying for grants, loans, tuition waivers and scholarships. The Nurse Science Department has several scholarships for students admitted into the program and the Oklahoma Manpower Commission has grant money available for nursing students.

Admission Requirements

The HESI Admission Assessment (HESI A2) is required for all applicants. The HESI A2 must have been taken in the past three years and must include: English Language (Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Grammar), Basic Math Skills, and Biology. The HESI A2 is scheduled through the NOC Testing Center.

Applicants must meet minimum program requirements for admission:

  • College retention GPA of 2.85 in required courses OR high school retention GPA of 3.5 if no college credits
  • Grade of C in required science courses
  • HESI A2 composite score of 75%
