If you are eligible for the statutory tuition fee, the Dutch government will contribute significantly to the costs of your education.

Statutory tuition fee rates
The Dutch government recently decided to halve the statutory tuition fee for academic year 2021/2022 as a one-time measure to relieve the COVID-19 educational consequences for students. If you are eligible for the statutory tuition fee, you therefore pay half of the applicable fee.
Academic year 2020/21 | Academic year 2021/22 Original fee | Academic year 2021/22 Adjusted fee | |
---|---|---|---|
Full-time | โฌ 2,143 | โฌ 2,168 | โฌ1,084 |
Part-time | โฌ 1,525 | โฌ 1,543 | โฌ 771 |
University College Maastricht (UCM) | โฌ 3,545 | โฌ 3,585 | โฌ 2,501 |
Maastricht Science Programme (MSP) | โฌ 3,545** | โฌ 3,585** | โฌ 2,501** |
MA Forensic Psychology | โฌ 3,870 | โฌ 3,915 | โฌ 2,831 |
** Exception: students who already started in MSP in (or before) the academic year 2019/20, pay โฌ 2,143 when re-enrolling for the academic year 2020/21 and โฌ 1,084 when re-enrolling for the academic year 2021/22.
First-year bachelor’s students eligible for statutory tuition fee pay half
Bachelor’s students, who have not previously been enrolled at a Dutch institute for higher professional education (hbo) or a Dutch university and who are eligible for the statutory tuition fee, pay a halved rate in their first academic year. The Dutch government covers for the unpaid part. These students will be entitled to pay the halved fee once during a consecutive period of 12 months. Master’s students eligible for the statutory tuition fee do not qualify for the halved fee.
You can find more information on the Government website.
This means that, if you are eligible for the halved statutory tuition fee because you are a first-year bachelor student, based on the COVID-19 halving of the statutory tuition fee for academic year 2021-2022, you will pay at UM:
Academic year 2020/21:
- UM bachelorโs programmes: โฌ 1,071 instead of โฌ 2,143
- University College Maastricht (UCM): โฌ 2,473 instead of โฌ 3,545
- Maastricht Science Programme (MSP): โฌ 2,473 instead of โฌ 3,545
Academic year 2021/22:
- UM bachelorโs programmes: โฌ 542 instead of โฌ 1,084
- University College Maastricht (UCM): โฌ 1,959 instead of โฌ 2,501
- Maastricht Science Programme (MSP): โฌ 1,959 instead of โฌ 2,501
Institutional tuition fees
You need to meet two conditions to qualify for the statutory tuition fee. These conditions concern natonality and/or enrollment into a first or second bachelorโs/masterโs programme. If you don’t meet these conditions, your study will not be subsidized by the Dutch government and you will need to pay the institutional tuition fee.
The Dutch government called upon the Dutch universities to reduce the Institutional tuition fees for academic year 2021/2022 with โฌ 1,084 as a one-time measure to relieve the COVID-19 educational consequences for students. All Dutch universities, including UM, responded positively to this request.
This means that the institutional tuition fees for academic year 2021-2022 differ from those for academic year 2020-2021:
Institutional tuition fees academic years 2020/21 and 2021/22 | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
