Program Overview

The Master of Science in Mathematics (MS MATH) is a two-year graduate program designed to enhance the understanding and training of students in Mathematics. The program is geared towards the upgrade of the knowledge that mathematics college teachers have, as well as to produce graduates who are competent in research and are motivated to participate in mathematics research and field study.

Recommended Undergraduate Program

Students who wish to pursue a graduate degree in MS in Mathematics should have an undergraduate degree in the science and mathematics field. However, students who do not hold an undergraduate program in those fields but still wish to pursue the program are encouraged to take at least 18 units of courses in the relevant fields.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications

  • The student must have an undergraduate degree relevant to the program
  • An applicant with a degree not in line with the science and mathematics field may still be admitted to the program as long as they take the pre-requisite courses. However, some colleges and universities admit any bachelorโ€™s degree holders. 
  • The student must pass the Graduate Admissions Test of the university

  • Recommendation letters from former professors, deans, or colleagues
  • Letter of intent
  • Most recent medical and dental health record
  • Copy of NSO Certified birth certificate
  • Copy of undergraduate diploma

Program Outcome

Graduates of MS in Mathematics are expected to be able to:

  • Communicate mathematical ideas in a precise language  both in oral and writing
  • Demonstrate skills in pattern recognition, critical analysis, and problem-solving
  • Understand the importance of mathematics and its relevance to other disciplines

Board Exam

The MS in Mathematics does not have a board examination. However, graduates may opt to take the Civil Service Examination (CSE) conducted by the Philippine Civil Service Commission (PCSC) to qualify in working in government offices. Some graduates opt to take a Doctorate degree to further gain expertise in the industry. 

Career Opportunities

Graduates of MS in Mathematics may pursue a career path in educational or financial institutions, business companies, or government agencies. They may apply as a mathematics professor, mathematician, math department head, investment manager, financial analyst, statistician, algorithm developer, systems developer, or a researcher.
