Math Grad Programs That Don’t Require the GRE
Montana State University
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University has several graduate math degree programs that don’t require the GRE for entrance. At this university, you could earn a Master of Science in mathematics, data science, mathematics, education, or statistics. They also have Ph.D. programs in mathematics, mathematics with an education emphasis, and statistics. The various masters’ programs require you to complete core coursework as well as electives that will depend on your area of focus. The Master of Science in Mathematics requires a thesis while the Master of Science in Statistics requires either a thesis or a writing project. For the Ph.D. program, you need to earn 60 credit hours, undergo written comprehensive exams, oral exams, and develop a dissertation.
Ohio University
Ohio University offers two graduate-level math programs: the M.S. in Mathematics and the PhD in Mathematics. While GRE scores are not required for either of these programs, you are encouraged to submit them if you have taken the test. The master’s program can be completed in two years with 40 credit hours, and you can concentrate in a computational, applied, or general track with an optional thesis. For the PhD program, you will need to take written examinations in a chosen field, such as algebra or topology, complete coursework, and develop a unique dissertation. The Ph.D. program typically takes seven years to complete.
Georgetown University
Georgetown University offers a M.S. in Mathematics & Statistics, and you won’t need to submit GRE scores to enter this 30-credit hour program. To earn this degree, you need to take core courses in such topics as applied mathematics and probability, as well as elective courses such as data analysis, computational math, or statistics and learning. There is no thesis option for this program; however, you may be required to participate in an internship, work on a special project, or conduct research directed by faculty.
George Mason University
The M.S. in Mathematics and the Ph.D. in Mathematics programs offered by George Mason University do not require GRE scores for admission. The M.S. is a 30-credit hour program where you can choose a standard track or an emphasis in applied or computational mathematics. Along with coursework, you will be required to either complete a thesis, create an oral presentation and paper, or take written examinations.
