Information about the tuition fees in Savonia for Bachelorโ€™s programmes

The Board of Directors of Savonia UAS has made a decision on 5.10.2020 to introduce new tuition fees for non- EU/EEA students. These tuition fees apply to students who will be admitted as students in 2021 or later. The tuition fee is charged for each academic year and it must be paid by 31 August. If a student fails to pay the tuition fee in time, she/he will lose the study place.

Tuition fee for Bachelor studies is 6000 euros per academic year.

In case the student accepts the study place by 30 April and registers as present for the first academic year, she/he will get the first year with an Early bird โ€“price (5000 euros).

Cost of studying and living

The tuition fee entitles the student to study and to use the normal support services available for students. However, all students have to buy books (if not available in the library) and other educational material themselves, students should also have their own laptop. Students must get insurance as well as take care of their own travelling and living costs (accommodation, food, clothing, leisure activities). Average monthly living cost for a student is estimated to be about 600โ€“800 euros.

According to Finnish Immigration Service, in addition to the amount of the tuition fee, the student has to have at least 6720 euros / academic year available to cover the living costs.

Information about the tuition fees in Savonia for Masterโ€™s programmes

If a student fails to pay the tuition fee in time, she/he will lose the study place.

Tuition fee for Master studies is 7000 euros per academic year.

In case the student accepts the study place by 30 April (spring application period) or 31 October (autumn application period) and registers as present for the first academic year, she/he will get the first year with an Early bird โ€“price (6000 euros).

Refund policy

The tuition fee for Master studies is non-refundable under any circumstances, because Master studies can be completed entirely online.

Scholarship

In the first academic year, all students who are obligated to pay the tuition fee will automatically get the scholarship, which covers 50% of the tuition fee. In the following academic years, the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must complete at least 30 credits during the previous academic year (two semesters).

The tuition fee is charged for each academic year. On the first academic year the tuition fee for the Master student after the scholarship is 3500 euros (Early bird tuition fee after the scholarship is 3000 euros), and it must be paid by 31 August (spring application period) or 31 December (autumn application period). After that, each academic year in June (for those who have started studies in September) or in November (for those who have started studies in January) students will get an invoice of half of the tuition fee 3500 euros and it must be paid by 31 August or 31 December. If a student fails to complete the earlier mentioned scholarship criteria, she/he will get another invoice in the beginning of August or January and the due date is 31 August or 31 January.GENERAL ADMISSION PROCESS

First academic year

  • Scholarship: 50% of 7000 โ‚ฌ (or Early bird 6000 โ‚ฌ)
  • Requirements: Accepted study place and registration as present
  • Tuition fee to be paid: 3500 โ‚ฌ (or Early bird 3000 โ‚ฌ)

Second academic year

  • Scholarship: 50% of 7000 โ‚ฌ
  • Requirements: 30 credits done in the previous academic year
  • Tuition fee to be paid: 3500 โ‚ฌ

Third academic year

  • Scholarship: 50% of 7000 โ‚ฌ
  • Requirements: 30 credits done in the previous academic year
  • Tuition fee to be paid: 3500 โ‚ฌ

The scholarship can only be granted for the statutory study time.
Statutory study times for different extents of study programmes are:

  • 60 credits Masterโ€™s degree โ€“ 2 years
  • 90 credits Masterโ€™s degree โ€“ 3 years
Am I required to pay the tuition fee?

You donโ€™t have to pay the tuition fee if you have one of these documents:

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland
  • EU blue card in Finland
  • EU Family Memberโ€™s Residence Card in Finland
  • Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A permit
  • EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (type P-EU)
  • Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit
  • Proof from the Finnish Immigration Service that you have registered, or applied to register, your EU right to residence in Finland (UK-citizens)

Please note, that the residence permit in another EU/EEA country is not sufficient grounds for exemption, only residence permits in Finland can be considered.

EU countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.

EEA countries:

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Who decides if I will be exempted from paying the tuition fee?

Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences make the decision whether you are required to pay fees or not based only on the Finnish Immigration Serviceโ€™s residence permit decision, which is checked from the copy of your residence permit card attached to your application documents.

If you have applied for residence permit but have not received the decision by the date when the tuition fee is due, you will have to pay the fee.
