International students

The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is proudly multinational. Ambitious and talented students from around the world expand their career options by joining the challenging architecture and built environment programmes at TU Delft. Our master’s programmes are underpinned by the renowned Dutch experience in architecture, spatial planning and the built environment professions, but have an international orientation drawing on the multinational faculty of staff and students.

Drawing on the Dutch tradition of multidisciplinary practice, students at our faculty work in groups to create integrated solutions for the built environment. A unique combination of creativity, engineering and analysis with insights from social science, history and theory is used to tackle complex problems.

Widespread design industry connections

The faculty is well connected to the design industry with renowned professionals from the Netherlands and abroad conducting courses, hosting workshops and delivering guest lectures. Graduates are well placed to work in the Netherlands and internationally.

Diversity of programmes

The faculty hosts much more than just architecture, with master programmes in urbanism, real estate and housing, building technology, landscape architecture and geomatics enriching the faculty. Besides that we offer the famous The Berlage, post-master in Architecture and Design.

The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment offers two full-time master programmes:

MSc programme Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences  
A master programme with five tracks: Architecture, Urbanism, Management in the Built Environment, Building Technology and Landscape Architecture. 

MSc programme Geomatics

Post-master programme

The Berlage Post-master in Architecture and Urban Design
A post-master programme for advanced critical thinking in architecture and urban design. Graduate and experienced architects and urbanists are given the freedom to develop alternative models and theoretical insights into the built environment. 

Exchange programme

Exchange students do not receive an academic degree or a diploma. During their studies in Delft, they remain registered at their home university. All general information regarding admission and application for the exchange programme is available on this site.

Please note: “Free movers” are not accepted. 

World class facilities

The faculty building ‘BK City’ offers excellent facilities to serve the needs of the students. Completely renovated and used as a living lab, BK City includes an auditorium designed by MVRDV, model making rooms, two cafes and well lit studio spaces for students.

Admission requirements

International applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences or technology subjects related to those taught at TU Delft are also eligible for this programme. You can choose to do a double degree (180 ECTS) with one of the other MSc programmes at TU Delft or fill the science & technology part of the curriculum with courses from another TU Delft MSc programme. If you are eligible for another TU Delft MSc programme, you are automatically eligible for our Communication Design for Innovation track. If you have already completed a suitable Master’s programme you might be exempted from some of the scientific course curriculum.

Proof of English Language proficiency

We advise students who apply to the Communication Design for Innovation programme to have higher scores on English Language proficiency tests than the minimum requirements for Master’s programmes at TU Delft. Because our programme mainly consists of group work, writing in English and communicating with students from different countries, it is important that both your spoken and your written English are very good.

We prefer applicants to meet one the following requirements:

  • A TOEFL** (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 100 and a minimum score of 21 for each section (internet-based test). Please note that we only accept the TOEFL internet-based test.
  • or IELTS** (academic version) overall band score of at least 7.0  and a minimum of 6.0 for each section.

Delft University of Technology Undergraduate Admissions

The Delft University of Technology offers undergraduate in dutch diploma as well as international diploma. Some programs may require a Dutch proficiency while others require English proficiency.

Admission Requirements for International Applicants

The general requirements and admissions process for international applicants is as follows:

  • Official transcripts of grades/high school marks
  • Secondary school leaving certificate
  • Would have studied relevant subjects to the selected program
  • Mathematics is mandatory for all B.Sc. programs
  • Dutch language requirements for Dutch taught subjects are required
  • If applicants have no Dutch proficiency, they can take the university’s official test to pass the exam
  • English language proficiency proof- TOEFL/ IELTS/Cambridge English Tests

Visa Process for International Applicants

  • TU Delft will apply for an MVV visa on behalf of the students.
  • They will be sending instructions and forms to the students after receiving the tuition fee.
  • Applicants need to pay the visa application fee which is euro 171
  • Applicants need to provide the following documents:
    • Copy of passport
    • Proof of financial support
    • Bank statement
    • Antecedents certificate
    • Declaration to undergo TB test
    • Declaration for a study residence permit
    • Acceptance letter
  • The visa may take up to 4 weeks

Delft University of Technology Graduate Admissions

There are a lot of options to choose from in TUDelft. The programs are available in various disciplines. Also, international diplomas and dutch diplomas are available for students to choose from.

The application requirements for international applicants are mentioned below:

  • Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of at least 75% of the total marks.
  • Subjects should be relevant to the masters program chosen

Admissions at TU Delft are highly competitive and some programs may as well require Dutch proficiency. Students with higher GPA are given preferences. The university also offers online courses and is famous for its PhD programs also. International applicants are required to wait for about 3 months for the admission decision to arrive.
